Tottenhoe Estate, Colville Road, Cherry Hinton, Cambridge. "If you'd like to know a bit more about the naming of the new development on Colville Road, I submitted several suggestions for the naming of this new development from a historical perspective, and I am really pleased that one of the suggestions that I made has been used - It is lovely when there are links to the village history rather than generic names used. If you'd like to know a bit more about the Tottenhoe Court and how it relates to the village, I did this little blog on my Cherry Hinton History section of my website."

Lime Kiln Road – our local country road - An article from Barrie Hunt on a road close to home ...
At the Cherry Hinton end of Queen Edith’s Way, there is a narrow country lane that snakes up, past the chalk pits, wending its way, via lovely views of Cambridge at the back of Netherhall School, to Worts Causeway and onward to the Gogs roundabout. Lime Kiln Road probably originates from the lime manufacturing carried out in the area in the 19th century and its width (approximately 2 cars + 50cm) reflects its minor status in the past. Interested in holding a Playing Out Event in Cherry Hinton?
A Playing Out Event is an event organised by residents to allow children's play in a closed road environment. Playing Out Events are only permitted to take place on quiet residential streets that do not affect the wider road network. The City Council have put together guidance to support Playing Out Event organisers in the planning of their events here

 'The Food Hub at St Andrew's would like to sincerely thank all those who have quietly delivered bags of food to be redistributed to those in need of some extra help right now. So many in this community have been really generous -- especially in the run-up to Christmas. Every donation is appreciated (as long as food is in date!) so keep them coming if you can. We are particularly low on canned soup, meats and fruit.
And if you're struggling to make ends meet, do come to St Andrew's on a Wednesday between 2 and 4 for free food, and advice on cutting your water bill.'

Cambridge City Council 2023-24 Area Committee grants (Closing date for Cherry Hinton 1st February, 2023).
Area Committee grants focus on activities which reduce social and / or economic inequality. "We will receive more requests than there is funding available; applications which focus on reducing inequality and can demonstrate clear evidence of need are likely to be more successful. Please make sure your activity clearly fits our priorities; if you are not sure, please give us a call to check. If you are applying for the first time, or for a new activity it is important that you call to discuss your idea before applying." More information here.

 Try Social Pickleball, you can join for FREE for the first four weeks thanks to funding from Healthy You. The sessions will be facilitated and are ideal if you are looking for a friendly and supportive activity to try. You don't need any previous experience of playing pickleball or any other sports and you don't need to have a partner. Pickleball is a game similar to tennis but played with a solid paddle and a ball with holes in it, so it moves slower than a tennis ball making it a great activity for those looking for a slower game than tennis. Like tennis, you can play singles or doubles and it can be played indoors or outdoors.

 Woodland & Wildlife Walk - Wandlebury Country Park 25th January 10am-12 noon.
Free guided walk to learn about woods and their wildlife. "Join our Wardens for a gentle guided walk to learn about and enjoy the woods and their wonderful wildlife." Meet at the noticeboard in the car park. Free but donations welcome.

Explore "Chinese and British", an exhibition from the British Library, at Cambridge Central Library on the third floor. On view from now until February 23rd, free entry. The exhibition panels celebrate the lasting impact of Chinese communities in the UK, from wartime service and contributions to popular cuisine to achievements in literature, sport, music, fashion and film.
Chinese translations and a family activity sheet are available, as well as an additional display panels highlighting Chinese communities in Cambridgeshire.
