Dear Hibiki no Kai and Echo Society Members,

Hibiki Zoom Meeting

January 22

Early bird
s

On time at 9:30!

What did you do last week?

                 。。。。

Doug : Pao was up all night because of high winds again. He scratches at doors and keeps me up. I tried new calming music, but it only helped for a while.

Trust and Believe

Two different meanings.

Example:

I will be going to the U.S. in April.

A dog walker will help while I’m gone. His name is Taki-san.

He has met Pao and been here several times.

I leave him the key to my house.

I trust him.

Why do I trust him?

He was recommended by someone I know.

He has good reviews.

He is always posting about his daily dog walks with photos.

He seemed very good with Pao.

I also believe him if he tells me something.

That is another reason to trust him.

But it’s a different concept.

Believe is not the same as trust.

Another example:

If you believe in the devil, or in UFOs it means you really think they exist.

Does that mean you trust them?

No! It’s different.

        。。。。

Tatsui : I had time to visit a bookstore. Lately I haven't because it's easy to buy online. I used to visit bookstores all the time. I like bookstores.

For English books it's easier to read electronic books.

Anyway, I had a chance to visit a bookstore and enjoyed it.

My grandson is always playing Fortnite - like 2 or 3 hours every day.

Sugimoto : It's getting colder and colder and the forecast is for very cold below freezing temperatures next Wednesday or Thursday.

Rosalie sent me a mask. It's good in the winter (not so much in the summer).

I found Japan's oldest mask.

Also a friend bought a new PC and I helped him with initial setup and am continuing to help him.

    。。。。。。  。。。。。。。。。。。。

     。。。。。

Cathy : I have one picture to show you. It's a celebration of Japan in Boston this week. It's been snowing on and off all the time this week.

      。。。。

Rosalie & Myles : We went to Daiso. Myles got a sponge for his coffee holder. Sugimoto-san recommended adding baking soda to help with the cleaning.

Also watching a TV show, Kiriko's Crime Diary, about a woman who wants to to jail for free rent and free meals. But she doesn't want to cause problems.

And we've been watching sumo.

                 。。。

Akie : Last Thursday I went to the city hall for some business, and then went to a hair salon for a haircut. Last Friday I went to the hospital for an internal medical checkup. I don't know the results yet. The doctor said I should increase walking and drink water after a walk.

      。。。。。

Yamada : Tsugehara-san and I also prepared something together, but we'll do that next time.

Another English class teacher gave us homework. We need to use the word nebulous.

In class we checked out nebula and nebulous and found they were related.

Everybody is here!

   。。。

Uchida : I had problems with my washing machine. It's 16 years old. He tried to ask the manufacturer but there are no parts available anymore. But it's working now.

His new year's resolution is to study English harder and also learn Mongolian!

      。。。

Sanae : Yesterday was drain pipe inspection day (sink, bathroom, toilet water flow).  However, my helper was late, so I moved the things in the sink myself.  The contractor moved things and inspected the bathroom.   My helper came after we finished.

Changed the decorations of my entrance for Setsubun.

     Did you know?

日本語で ランドセル   ・・・・  英語では School bag
   ※ オランダ語の「ランセル」が訛ってランドセルに

    日本語で リュックサック    ・・・・ 英語では  Backpack

   ※ リュックサックはドイツ語が由来

How was your omelet?

.

.

It was eggcellent!

Joke from Doug

A pregnant woman falls into a deep coma.

6 months later she wakes up and asks the doctor about her baby.

The doctor says, “You had twins. A girl and a boy. Your brother named them.”

“Oh no, my brother is such an idiot. What did he name the girl?”

“Denise.”

“Oh, that’s not so bad. What about the boy?”

.

.

“Denephew.”
