January's charity is "Kisses for Kate"

Kisses4Kate a 501-c3 nonprofit that started in 2010 to help children with cancer and their families. It is a support organization that was started for the sake of keeping one promise to a little girl named Kate Thornton. It continues in her memory helping other children afflicted with this disease. We offer support to families who are separated by hardships brought on by lengthy treatments and hospitalizations. We assist the families by providing emergency funds for utilities and monthly household mortgage, car payments and other living expenses. In addition we sponsor more than 400 children in the Beads of Courage program, provide princess hospital Gowns4Girls for any little girl in treatment, Pillows4Parents, Mother's Day Makeover, Superhero Capes, Port Pillows and accessibility to meet the needs of these children. Please go to "about us" to read more about our history and visit our "events" page for upcoming fundraisers.

We thank you for your support.
We are very grateful for our St. Pius X families and the kind donations to our foundation. Even the smallest amount makes it possible for us to continue our programs for children in cancer treatment.

THANK YOU!
Sra. Kat Manzella

Friday, FEBRUARY 3rd is FREE PIZZA DAY
in celebration of Catholic Schools Week!

Students in grades 3rd through 8th will receive TWO free slices of pizza for lunch.

Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students will receive ONE free slice of pizza for lunch.

The statue of The Holy Family is finally in place in the DeJoy Circle, near the main building breezeway entrance.

The statue, imported from Italy, was made possible by a gift from Tom (Tall Tom) & Mary Martin. The Martins are as humble as they are generous, so they do not want any grand thank you ceremony; but if you see Tom, please thank him for this extremely kind and beautiful gift.  We will be placing a plate on the base of the statue to acknowledge the gift.

*** It is OK for students to touch the statue!  In fact, under Monsignor's direction. we had the statue placed at the height where the average second grader can reach the child Jesus' hands.  Monsignor wants everyone, especially our kids, to feel welcome to touch Jesus' hands.  However, please do not let anyone climb on, or hang on the statue.  It is made out of cast bronze, which is not a strong enough metal for people to hang on. ***

Greetings from the Health Room!  Spring sports are right around the corner.  If your student plans to try out for track, girl’s soccer, tennis, golf, boy’s lacrosse, girl’s lacrosse, baseball or kickball, we must have a current (within the last year) physical on file in the health room.  Every student participating in an after school sport is required by Diocesean policy to have a Diocese Health Form on file.  Physicals that expire during the sport season need to be updated as they expire.  They must be current on the date of try outs or the student is not permitted to participate.  If you have any questions regarding the expiration date of your student’s physical, please contact the Health Room.  GO COMETS!

"Abundant Life!" is the theme of the 46th annual DYC, based on the Gospel reading for the closing Mass on Good Shepherd Sunday, April 30th.

In an effort to re-imagine DYC, this year’s Diocesan Youth Advisory Council is introducing NEW elements to the event.  To realize the goal of creating a "more truly diocesan youth conference," this year parishes are invited to participate by volunteering in two ways:

1.  Be part of the actual conference program
2.  Bring materials to be shared and taken home by all to help local homeless individuals in your home communities. (This component will also include an educational component of advocacy and sourcing and vetting local agencies.)

“You could call this 50th anniversary year a ‘Year of Faith.’ We are proclaiming along with St. Peter in today’s Gospel: ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God’ (Mt 16: 16).”

“Faith More Precious than Gold” (1 Peter 1:7)

The Diocese of Charlotte celebrates its golden anniversary in 2022 –
a year to be hallmarked by a renewal of our Catholic faith. Celebrations include a diocese-wide Marian Pilgrimage, the 2022 Eucharistic Congress, family-friendly events, 50 Acts of Charity, and historical highlights of the Church in western North Carolina from missionary times to today’s diverse and growing diocese.

Throughout this anniversary year, let us recall the past with gratitude, celebrate the present with joy, and look to the future with hope that we might glorify God and strengthen our diocesan family –
above all, affirming our faith which is “more precious than gold.”

Help protect all of God’s children
Everyone has a role to play in protecting children. North Carolina law requires all adults to immediately report suspected child abuse by anyone to law enforcement agencies. If you know or suspect that a minor (person under 18) has been abused, please call 9-1-1 or contact local law enforcement.
Also, if you have information about possible sexual abuse or misconduct by any clergy, employee or volunteer of the Diocese of Charlotte, report concerns securely and anonymously 24/7 over the phone or online: 1-888-630-5929 or
www.
