...And Now For Something Completely Different.

Fans of unusual food pairings, rejoice! January 10th, 2023 marks the third annual celebration of Champagne & French Fry Day. Created by Anna Maria Kambourakis, founder and owner of Chania Wine Tours in Crete and the wine blog Unravelling Wine, along with her friend Kleopatra Bright, this international holiday is celebrated every year since 2021 on Kambourakis's birthday. Anna Maria, a trained and certified sommelier, says that the two foods pair so well because the acid and effervescence of the champagne cuts through the salt and fat of the fries. She particularly recommends an extra dry champagne, as opposed to brut, because it is slightly sweet, which mellows out the salt.

Alethiometers At The Ready!

As a reminder: our His Dark Materials flight is coming Friday, January 13th, and we are excited for this one! We have picked three characters from the hit series, and we'll be pairing six wines to them and their daemons.
Haven't seen the show? Don't know what a daemon is? His Dark Materials is based on a well-loved series of three novels by Philip Pullman: The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. Characters in the show wear their souls on the outside of their bodies, in the form of an animal companion called a daemon, with whom they can communicate. A person's relationship to their daemon says a lot about them, and in our case provides an opportunity to have some fun with how these pairings play with each other. After all, how often do you get to do pairings, of pairings?

Astrology Flights Incoming!

The sun is in the sign of Aquarius from January 20th to February 18th, and we'll be commemorating it with the return of our Astrological flights! We'll be featuring five wines paired to the qualities of Aquarians from Wednesday, January 25th, through Sunday the 29th.
Also: note that on Saturday, January 28th, the shop will be closed until 4 PM for a private event, and then we'll be open for flights from 4 - 8 PM.
