Tech Coach Corps: Summer Youth Employment

This summer at the Tech Center we are hosting the second cohort of the Tech Coach Corps program in partnership with YouthWorks. This is a five week, in-person program that will give youth on the job training for career pathways in tech education, audio/video production, marketing, content creation, as well as facilitation.

The program will be for YouthWorks employees ages 14-21, including Baltimore City Public School students who have been accepted by YouthWorks. At least 20 youth will participate in our new Tech Coach Corps program, where they will not only learn how to use cutting edge technologies, including those outlined above, but also how to teach other youth to use them.

Youth will learn about key technology skills taught at DHF, such as 3D printing, robotics, and game development. They will then cement their knowledge by learning how to share what they have learned with their peers. Youth will create their own multimedia course content, develop program facilitation skills, and study best practices in program marketing and recruitment. Youth may personalize their employment experience by choosing to focus on different aspects of developing youth technology education programs.

During the last week of the program, youth will develop a capstone project that synthesizes the technology and facilitation skills they have developed over the summer.
