As a reminder, Cyber Basics (2020.12) will no longer be available starting summer 2023.

Cyber Basics (2022.11) is a virtual environment that includes student access to a Kali Linux virtual machine that is in a subnet with three other discoverable systems.
|
|
|
The Cyber Basics environment is used with several courseware materials - be sure to visit the corresponding courseware for any updates.

Our CFP is open! We are specifically requesting proposals on topics related to enhancing cybersecurity education for students in high schools, colleges, and universities. We invite proposals for the following tracks:

Track 1: Innovative courseware, case studies, and hands-on activities

Track 2: Tips, emerging trends, and future directions
-
Track 3: Work-based learning and workforce development
These proposals should be appropriate for 90-minute workshops, 45-minute presentations or panels, or 20-minute short talks.

Virginia HS teachers: have you signed your student teams for the Commonwealth Cyber Cup yet?!
This unique opportunity allows student teams across Virginia to compete against each other to claim to be the best in the state.
The virtual practice round is open now! Student teams must participate in the practice round before January 31 to qualify for the in-person event in March.

Congratulations to Germanna Community College! A recent announcement revealed Sen. Tim Kaine and Sen. Mark Warner secured $870,000 for Germanna’s James R. Clapper Center for Innovation in Cybersecurity. The funding will be used to grow Germanna’s cybersecurity degree and credential programs.

Attention College & University faculty!
Sandia Labs is hosting a TracerFIRE event at Virginia Tech on February 17-19, 2023. This is an in-person, hands-on, forensics and incident-response competition, with a heavy training component. Participants do not have to have experience in this area.

CyberSlam 2023 was a huge success!
Over 400 Virginia high school students gathered at George Mason University on January 9, 2023 in Fairfax, VA. Hands-on sessions included drones, penetration testing, encryption and decryption, as well as capture the flag challenges. Special guests included cybersecurity leaders from George Mason, the state of Virginia, and the United States Secret Service.
