Board of Trustees to determine next steps

The Pierce County Library System's Board of Trustees continued its discussion about Lakewood library buildings at its Jan. 11 meeting, and will continue to meet monthly as it works to determine next steps. The trustees reviewed the recommendation from the Lakewood Library Building Community Advisory Committee:
  • To keep the library at the same location, building a new library on the current site. If that is not possible, the committee recommends building a new library in an equally accessible location.
The Library System is working to understand what steps would be needed to prepare the current site of the Lakewood Library for potentially building a new building on the property.

Trustees gave further discussion to the Community Advisory Committee’s recommendation for the Tillicum Pierce County Library, which is:
  • Renovating the existing building or rebuilding on the existing site if the property can be acquired. If not, it recommends pursuing a location near the existing library, and if that is not financially or practically feasible, then the committee recommended building on a parcel currently owned by the City.

Interim Lakewood Library

Library staff is identifying and addressing details of the interim Lakewood Library with architects. The Library System has released the request for bids for the contractor work and will soon be bringing the contracts to the Board for approval.
