Why I Became a Lawyer

I get asked often why I became a lawyer, and I usually give a quick answer along the lines of "I believe it is important for people to have someone looking out for them during a stressful time," but I wanted to share more of my "why." Life has a funny way of putting us on the right path even when we don't realize it at the time!

I know the common stereotypes about lawyers: aggressive, uncaring, apathetic, etc., but that isn't always the case. I have worked with many great attorneys who give their clients all they can and fight tooth and nail for them. I was once in a situation where I was the client, and it completely changed my life. What I am about to share will probably surprise many of you! But I also hope it will let you know that you will be met with empathy and understanding if you ever need my legal services. That's what the Law Office of Julie Moore is known for!

When I was in college and working towards a business and marketing degree, I made a bad decision that led to me spending a night in jail. It was one of the scariest nights of my life.
(To hear the full story, watch the video below.) However, that night profoundly impacted me and gave me a whole new perspective, so much so that I changed my education path and decided to become a lawyer as a result. I realized how scary it can be to one day find yourself in trouble with the law and how helpless it can feel. I wanted to be the lawyer people knew they could call and get the legal help they needed without judgment or shame.

Over the last 10 years, my team and I have worked hard to create an atmosphere that puts our clients at ease and is a safe space to get the help they need with their legal problems. My clients know that I will do everything I can to keep one bad decision from ruining the rest of their life.

That night in college is not something I am proud of, but it put me on the path to making a difference in my community, which has always been a driving force of mine. I decided to share it publicly to show that a dark moment in someone's life does not have to define your future, that it can be the catalyst to great change. I want my story to bring hope to anyone experiencing something similar.

If you or someone you care about is going through a legal battle and need representation, please call my office and let us fight for your future. You don't have to do this alone.

Georgia Defense Carry Course

Georgia Defense Carry Course

With all that's going on in the world, it's smart to have a way to protect yourself but make sure that you are trained to use it safely and legally. There are many options for personal safety, like mace, a taser, self-defense classes, or a gun. If you opt to carry a gun for self-protection, I encourage you to attend a gun safety & use class.

There are many options for gun safety classes out there, some local law enforcement departments offer them throughout the year, or there are groups of firearms trainers who offer them. Below are details of an upcoming course in Carrollton that will show you how to properly and safely carry a weapon and educate you on the self-defense laws in Georgia.

Focused Fire Training is the largest concealed carry training group in the nation. Their instructors are highly trained, certified, and well-qualified to teach concealed carry courses and the laws surrounding them.

The class is on February 18th from 9 am - 12 am, and tickets are $29.99.

In the class, they will cover the following:

  • Georgia laws on the use of force and self-defense.
  • Georgia gun laws on where you can and cannot carry, reciprocity, and much more….
  • Handgun fundamentals! We will teach you proper stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger press, and how to perform under stress.
  • Scenarios! They will train your brain on what to do during a crisis. This can help speed up your decision-making process so that you can make the right choice under a tremendous amount of stress!
  • Obtaining the Georgia Permit: where to go.
  • Ages 14+ are welcome to the event.

A Recipe from Julie
Quick Fridge Pickled Vegetables

I'm losing my mind over this ultimate topping!

These pickled veggies are better than any other condiment I've tried, and they are so easy to make. You might be thinking, who wants to top off their dish with pickled veggies? Trust me; this will give a sweet and tangy twist to any dish. I love putting it with a lot of food because it brings a real freshness to any dish that makes even reheated leftovers seem new.

What do you put this on specifically?

  • Chicken
  • Tacos

  • Steak

  • Tofu

  • Burgers

  • Rice Bowls

Literally any dish you can think of, or sometimes I eat it by itself!
Here's what you'll need for the quick pickled veggies:

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup  vinegar*

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots

  • 1/2 cup shredded radish

  • 1/3 English cucumber (cut into matchsticks)

  • 1/2 red onion (sliced thin)

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 TBSP chopped green onion

  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

  • 1/2 tsp sugar (skip for whole30)

  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano leaves

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Wash and dry a medium-large mason jar.

  • If you’re not using pre-shredded carrots and radishes, slice them into matchsticks along with your cucumber. I use the slicer on my cheese and veggie grater/slicer to slice the radish and cut it into thin slices, then chop lengthwise into thin strips. It’s so super speedy!

  • Bring water and vinegar to a boil in a medium saucepan.

  • Add green onion, garlic, sea salt, oregano, and sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves and remove from heat. Allow the pot to cool for 5-10 minutes.

  • Pack the veggies tightly in your mason jar and slowly pour the hot vinegar mixture over the veggies. If you’d like to enjoy them slightly al dente (vs. soft), feel free to let the liquid cool even more before adding it to the jar.

  • Allow your jar to cool to room temperature, then slap on the lid and pop it into the fridge. That’s it!

  • They can be enjoyed that very day and will be a bit more slaw-like and al dente at first. The longer these tasty veggies sit in the fridge, the more flavors will intensify, and the more they’ll soften up!

Want to add a little Spice?

Add some Jalapenos or Scotch Bonnet peppers to the mix if you like extra heat.

Funny Arrest Story

Drunk Florida man uses Taco as an I.D.

Yes, another Florida Case...I don't wanna taco ‘bout it.

Matthew Faulker, a 30-year-old man from Jensen Beach, decided to head out for a late-night snack after a long day of drinking beer.

Where did he end up? Taco Bell. It makes sense; who doesn't want a taco or burrito after such a blur of a night? Something about Taco Bell just hits right. Unfortunately (fortunately?), he fell asleep in the drive-thru line with his foot on the gas pedal, holding up the line behind him and continuously revving his engine for over an hour. When police arrived at the scene to wake Faulker, they asked him to identify himself.

Instead of a photo I.D., he pulls out a taco, laughs, and starts to chow down. They asked again for id, and he said "No" and offered them a taco instead. The police asked him to step out of the truck because it was clear he wasn't in any state to be behind the wheel. When Falkner finally got out of the truck, the deputies discovered that the truck was on fire and quickly used extinguishers to douse the flames.

Matthew Faulker's alcohol content was around .225 and.227, which is three times the legal limit of 0.08. Faulkner was arrested and sent to jail with a DUI charge as well as an empty stomach.

It's 2023, and there is no reason to drive while intoxicated for food since there are so many food delivery services out there. Let's hope Mr. Faulkner calls one if he has another day of drinking and needs tacos.
