For the second year in a row, the Global Philadelphia Association staff joined the Philabundance team in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr Day. GPA team members met at the Philbundance warehouse in South Philadelphia to sort hundreds of donated food items from the 2022 holiday season.
In the spirit of community service and selflessness on Martin Luther King Jr Day 2023, the GPA team helped Philabundance staff members organize essential food items and create food care packages for the many families and individuals that are served by this organization in Philadelphia. Philabundance works year around to make sure Philadelphia residents are able to access food, fighting hunger within our community.
GPA is always happy to support organizations that help our Philadelphia community, especially the ones that champion our Sustainable Development Goals Campaign. As the SDG 2 Zero Hunger grantee, Philabundance is a great example of an organization that tackles local issues while contributing to the global fight against global hunger.
SDG 2 is the second out of the 17 SDGs, and has become a goal that focuses on healthy lives and promoting well-being. The unveiling for SDG 2 is expected to take place on September 23rd on Hunger Action Day.
Philabundance will be the grantee of this SDG, and Giant Foods, an industry leader in the traceability of the food supply chain, will be the sponsor of this project.
More about SDG 2 Zero Hunger: Sustainable Development Goal 2 is about creating a world free of hunger by 2030. In 2020, between 720 million and 811 million persons worldwide were suffering from hunger, roughly 161 million more than in 2019. Also in 2020, a staggering 2.4 billion people, or above 30 percent of the world’s population, were moderately or severely food-insecure, lacking regular access to adequate food.
