CalCAN Looks to New Senate Committee
Leadership for Climate and Ag Issues

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan 13 — This week Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) ratified the new 2023-24 Senate committee assignments.  At the California Climate and Agriculture Network (CalCAN), we are looking forward to working with the members of the Agriculture Committee, Natural Resources and Water Committee, and the Budget Subcommittee #2 on Resources, Environmental Protection and Energy to ensure California farmers and ranchers get the financial incentives and technical support needed to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

“California farmers and ranchers are grappling with drought, fires, extreme heat and now historical floods and rainfall. There are many organic and climate smart agricultural strategies that not only help curb climate change but also help them adapt to climate impacts such as these,” said Renata Brillinger, Executive Director at CalCAN. “These legislators and committees, in particular, will greatly  influence whether farmers and ranchers have the resources they need to survive and thrive.”

CalCAN would like to extend an open invitation to these committees and their newly appointed chairs to discuss potential initiatives to ensure the long-term viability of California’s agriculture industry in the face of climate change.

We look forward to working together with Senators Melissa Hurtado, Dave Min, Josh Becker, their committee members, and the entire legislature in the coming months.
