Sixth Form Taster Day

This week Year 11 students have taken part in a sixth form taster day as part of the programme to help them prepare for their post-16 decisions. During the day, students experienced what it would be like to be a sixth former at Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls. All students chose three A Level subjects to experience a taster lesson led by subject specialist teachers.

They received information and guidance about A level subject choices, the EPQ project and the range of options available to them during their enrichment time such as Latin, Crocheting, work experience and volunteering, in addition to a plethora of leadership opportunities.  They also spent time talking with current sixth former students to gain advice and understand the sixth form day from a student’s perspective.

If students, or parents, have any queries about sixth form, please visit the school website or use the email address sixthform@suttcold.bham.sch.uk to get in touch with the team.

Our thoughts are with the Arthur Terry community

We were very saddened to hear this morning that a Year 12 girl from Arthur Terry has died. Some of our students and their families may know the individual, it has been reported in the local news so many others will be aware.

Support has been available during the school day from the pastoral team, you may find the resources available on our website helpful https://www.suttcold.bham.sch.uk/page/?title=Bereavement+and+Loss&pid=124

Our thoughts go to the student’s family and the whole Arthur Terry community.

Issues regarding parking in the school community

The School recently has received numerous complaints from local residents about parking on adjacent roads to the School site. The picture below shows parking from one evening this week, with numerous vehicles parked on double yellow lines, both sides of the Goldieslie Road. This is a safety risk to our students and members of the local community, significantly disrupts the flow of traffic and damages the relations between the School and our neighbours.

Please can parents ensure they are parking considerately and in compliance with the Highway Code. There are double yellow lines and zig-zag lines identifying areas where vehicles should not park or drop off passengers.

There are numerous car parks located within walking distance of the school site (Holland Road, Duke Street and Upper Holland Road are the closest) so please use these if possible. Your support in this matter is much appreciated.

Public Transport advice

We want to make sure that our students remain safe on public transport. If anyone experiences issues with crime or anti-social behaviour, we recommend the following:

On the Train: Report crime or incidents on your train or at your station discreetly by texting the British Transport Police on 61016

On the Bus: If you experience anti-social behaviour on your bus journey, text “SeeSay” and details of the incident to 81018.

Reminder of Absence Procedures
