Loreto Highlights Update - 13th January 2023
New School Lunch Provider
Over the past week we have welcomed Tiny Tums to the Loreto school community.  Tiny Tums design their meals with the children in mind, aiming to encourage healthy eating habits.  One Year 3 pupil said, "Wow the food looks cool", and indeed the new style of freshly cooked food has gone down a storm this week.
You can find out all about Tiny Tums on our website here.
On Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th January,  parents are invited to join us in a tasting session.  It's an opportunity to meet the team and ask any questions.  We hope to see many of you there.
Time
Year 3 have started to consolidate their understanding of reading and writing the time on analogue and digital clocks, as well as looking at different measures of time and the relationships between them. The pupils have revised the days of the week and months of the year, using time language and connectives to describe events.
Spanish Lessons
Immersion-based learning means learning a language in the most natural way possible and this is what we do in the after school Spanish lessons. It is a great way to learn because it allows pupils to truly experience everyday situations. We use role play to practise speaking in a conversational situation, build confidence and fluency, assess progress and put learning into action.
Place Value
The Year 1 pupils have been working on their place value skills with numbers to 20.
Place value can be defined as the value represented by a digit in a number on the basis of its position.
We are learning that the '1' in our teens numbers represents a group of 10.
Gold Book
Well done to pupils in Lower Primary and Foundations Stages 1 & 2 who were presented with their Gold Award certificates and gold pencils.
Bucket Drumming
Year 3 have started the year with a bang and an exciting new challenge!
They have been learning about rhythms and playing them whilst keeping a steady beat. They have enjoyed our introduction to this topic and will soon be playing more complicated rhythms in time to their favourite pop songs!
Watch this space to see them progress…
Faith Diary

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” This Sunday’s Gospel records the words Saint John the Baptist speaks about Jesus at the moment he sees Him coming towards him.  Today, as we ponder John’s words, we are able to understand them more clearly than his hearers would have done at the time.  At Mass, these are the words spoken by the priest after the Consecration and every time we participate in Holy Mass, we relive this moment in which John saw our Lord approaching.  We are invited, like John, to acknowledge and come to know the Lamb of God more fully, not only through His teachings, miracles and actions,  as recorded in the Gospels, but also in a personal, physical way, by receiving His body, blood, soul and divinity in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Winter Activities
Our Nursery 2 children enjoyed this magical tuff tray today.
The tuff tray was full of different textures and materials for the children to explore as well as sea creatures and animals.
A tuff tray is an excellent learning tool for early years children, as the provision of different tools, objects and materials in a tuff tray encourages children to strengthen their fine motor skills. They encourage problem-solving, teach children how to communicate effectively with others and how to take turns and share.
