Faith Diary
“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” This Sunday’s Gospel records the words Saint John the Baptist speaks about Jesus at the moment he sees Him coming towards him. Today, as we ponder John’s words, we are able to understand them more clearly than his hearers would have done at the time. At Mass, these are the words spoken by the priest after the Consecration and every time we participate in Holy Mass, we relive this moment in which John saw our Lord approaching. We are invited, like John, to acknowledge and come to know the Lamb of God more fully, not only through His teachings, miracles and actions, as recorded in the Gospels, but also in a personal, physical way, by receiving His body, blood, soul and divinity in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
