FIRE DEPARTMENT

Question:  Do you take out-of-district volunteers?

Answer: absolutely! The requirements for out-of-town volunteers are slightly different than in district volunteers, however.  The out of area volunteer must spend a minimum of 24 hours per month staffing the fire station.  They must also attend all regular scheduled fire meetings and training sessions. The 24-hour requirement can be broken up into smaller segments of 6 or 12 hours.

Question:  If the power goes out can you bring a generator to my house to power my oxygen machine?

Answer: Several years back HIFD was able to provide such a service.  Sadly, the fire department can no longer provide generators to individual’s home.  The increasing liability involved has become an issue.  In addition, the old generators have deteriorated with age, and many are prohibitively expensive to repair.  Also, the emergency crews are running more calls than ever, especially during storms and winter events, and may have extensive delays in addressing non-emergency requests.

If you are oxygen dependent, always have spare portable oxygen bottles available to see you through outages.  Make plans to relocate to a relative or friends house if needed.  Should you run out of oxygen or find that you are having a medical emergency dial 911.  Do not call the fire station.  The crews will be out on emergencies and will miss your phone call.

I attended the January 9, 2023, HISID Special Meeting.  At this meeting, it was brought to my attention the Friday, January 6, 2023,
HI Happenings did not include the January 9, 2023, Special Meeting notice.  Contrary to accusations, this was my error. I understand there are a lot of comments on social media accusing this was by design.

I wish to set the record straight. This omission was nothing but human error – MINE. I try to do a good job with HI Happenings, unfortunately I do make mistakes.

I am providing the link to the 20th Edition – 2022 The Arkansas FREEDOM OF INFORMATION (FOI) Handbook:

HI HIKERS

This coming Monday, January 16th, we will stay close to home and hike the Genesis Trail on the Passion Play grounds in Eureka Springs. It's about 3 miles if utilizing a shortcut (5 miles if you hike the whole trail). It's not difficult although there is a little up and down to it.

We will meet at 10:00 am in the Passion Play parking lot by the large rustic four pillar trailhead kiosk. Just follow the road in. It's pretty hard to miss. Vickie and Mike Welch will be leading this hike.
