Happy 2023! Here's hoping for a greener, solar future!

Were you at our AGM on November 26? If not, you missed a great presentation by School District Chair Amanda Amaral, who talked about the extensive solar arrays on many schools, perhaps more than any school district in the province. Look for an article in the spring issue of Coast Life all about the vision, leadership and commitment to climate change goals of our school district.

There was also a lively discussion about heat pumps and how they help keep heating and cooling costs down. Solar Association board chair Gord Bishop decided to carry out a DIY project, installing a small heat pump in his garage - more about this in our next newsletter.

Directors elected for the 2022-23 board:
Carrying on with the board for another year are chair Gord Bishop, retired electrician, Megan and Cody (youth representative) Kelso, fund-raisers extraordinaire, Gayle Neilson, retired teacher and an original founder of the association, Gerry Pageau, retired chemical engineer and solar educator, and Maggie Xie, Registered professional accountant. New to the board are Liam Bonser, professional solar installer and red seal electrician and Daniel Tardif, retired Professional Engineer whose background in operations and maintenance in both industry and municipal government, will be an asset for to the board especially in considering the feasibility of energy conservation projects. Between AGMS, the board can appoint new directors who must be voted in at the subsequent AGM, so let us know if you would like to contribute to this dynamic team.   You can also support your community solar association by becoming a member! It's easy to check if you are paid up by emailing  Suncoastsca@gmail.com & put ‘Check my membership status’ in the subject line. We’re happy to let you know!
Membership is just $20 per year for an individual or family. The board recently voted to offer a business membership of $150 which gives businesses a chance to display their logo at our events and on this
newsletter. Follow the membership links on our website at https://suncoastcommsolar.weebly.com

Another way to help: we are looking for someone to help keep our website updated. Contact us at the above email (please).

With the start of 2023, planning is underway for Cody and Megan:
"Pulverize, Plant and Paddle for the Planet"
This year they are supporting the Roberts Creek Firehall with green initiatives and so far have pulverized pumpkins (and had a yummy bake sale) with all funds going to the firehall. They also plan to support an Ocean Organization. Information will be coming out soon so watch this space!
Also, save your bottles for their spring bottle drive.
