MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
SJCS Families,
It has been another great week at SJCS! Students have worked hard during MAP testing. I am very proud of them. I also want to thank our teachers for their hard work and flexibility during testing. Teachers have spent many hours planning and teaching to help all students learn and grow. Thank you parents for supporting our teachers and your students.
Please take time to read through this newsletter. It is packed with tons of information and upcoming events. We have some exciting things planned for students and families. In order to make this happen, we need your help. I invite you to find a time to volunteer to help with the spaghetti lunch scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 2nd. This is a fun time for students and families but it takes many hands to make this a success. I encourage everyone to try to find a time to volunteer that will fit your schedule.
There is a Home and School Meeting Tuesday, January 24th at 6:30. I hope you will attend. One of the reasons SJCS is a great school is because of parent involvement. I look forward to working with all of you and seeing you at the upcoming meeting.

PIE IN A TEACHER'S FACE FUNDRAISER GAME
Home Basketball Game - Friday, January 20 at 4:30 PM
If we raise $200, each player gets to pick a SJCS staff member to pie during Catholic Schools Week! We will be collecting donations during the game. If you can't attend, you can give online using the GoFundMe link below.

UNIFORM DROP-OFF
If you have any uniform items that your child/children have outgrown, please donate them to the uniform sale. This will be a big help to other families in the school. Uniforms will be collected in the car pick-up line Monday, January 23 and Tuesday, January 24 or can be dropped off to the labeled bin in the front office.

Chili Cook-Off January 28
Beat winter’s chill at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Chili Supper and COOK-OFF
Saturday, January 28 @ 6:00 PM - Parish Center
Contestants will provide samples of their chili for those attending and there will be judges on hand to select the best chili in the house! Everyone will get a chance to sample chili at each booth and then have a bowl of their favorite! The winning team will be announced at the end of the evening and will be presented a "major award.”
Parish Life will provide their famous award-winning chili, chili fixins, cornbread, beverages, and fruit cobbler for dessert. Grilled cheese sandwiches will be available for the little ones!
Pay at the Door - $5 for Adults, $3 for Children 10 - 4, Free for Children 3 and Under. No family pays more than $20

In celebration of Catholic Schools Week, SJCS parents are invited to join their students for a spaghetti lunch of Thursday, February 2 in the Parish Center.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - FAMILY SPAGHETTI LUNCH
To make this lunch a success for our SJCS families, we need volunteers to help with setting up, food prep, serving/plating and clean up.
Please view your Bloomz App where you can sign up for a volunteer time.
Please sign up for a time when your student is NOT scheduled for lunch, so you can join them for lunch as well as volunteer your time.

SJCS TALENT SHOW
As part of Catholic Schools' Week, we are hosting a talent show on Thursday, February 2. All interested students must complete an application to participate. Please click the link below to complete an application. Paper applications will also be available with each classroom teacher.

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT - FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3
To wrap up Catholic Schools Week, SJCS families are invited to join us for a Family Movie Night in the Parish Center.
Doors open at 6:00 PM. Movie begins at 6:30 PM.
Snacks will be available for purchase to benefit SJCS Soaring Carts.

GIRLS ON THE RUN REGISTRATION OPEN FOR SPRING SEMESTER
Girls on the run is an afterschool program for girls grades 3-5. It transforms girls' lives by helping them increase their self-confidence, develop healthy relationships, and feel good about themselves, inside and out.
We'll practice Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00 beginning February 7.

VIRTUS TRAINING
The VIRTUS Protecting God's Children training is required for all volunteers and employees in the Diocese of Savannah.
If you missed the last class, here is another chance!
***If you have already taken this class, you won't need to take it again.***
A session is scheduled at St. John the Evangelist School in Valdosta:
January 21, 2023: 9:00am – 12:00pm (3 hours)
Seating is limited and pre-registration is required online. A minimum of 10 is required to conduct the training. A LAPTOP or DESKTOP is recommended for registration. No one under the age of 18 is allowed to be present. Child care is not provided.
