Principal's Message

Dear McGaugh Families,

This month the Elementary Wellness Counselors will be visiting classrooms to provide Second Step lessons on self-regulation and practicing how to recognize and calm down strong feelings, manage anger, problem solve, and implement calming strategies.  The Well Spaces will also have Regulation Centers where students can learn about the Zones of Regulation and have the opportunity to explore and practice regulation tools.  Structured recess and lunchtime guided self-regulation workshops will take place at each site focusing on Yoga, Belly Breathing, Body Scans and Guided Imagery.  Wellness Counselors will also be providing teachers with a read aloud book from the Spot series called A Little Scribble Spot, as well as providing additional regulation activities where students can name and color their feelings.

Wellness at Home

If you would like to incorporate emotion regulation at home with your Sea Lion below is a read-aloud and a short video you can watch together to further foster the idea of emotion regulation. We encourage you to have an open discussion about what they think these stories mean and what they learned from it.

You raised more than $11,000 toward our $40,000 GOAL during the first week of our annual fitness fundraiser to benefit PTA programs.
  • That means we're just $4K away from reaching our first FUNDRAISING MILESTONE of $15K that will unlock EXTRA RECESS for EVERY STUDENT
  • If we get to $25,000, students can bust a move during a DANCE PARTY with Assistant Principal Rick Larson (aka DJ Larson) spinning music!
  • Hitting the $40,000 GOAL means students will be able to ooh and aah at a PERFORMANCE OF BMX STUNT RIDERS on campus!

And students are also already earning individual prizes including these adorable SEA LION PLUSHIES. Raise $150 or send 100 emails asking friends and family to sponsor your student for the Jan. 27th Jog-a-thon where students run as many laps as possible, and you could bring this cuddly mascot home too!
