Stunning standard set at Northern Champs!

Indoor Championship season began over the weekend, with our older juniors taking part in the Northern U17/U20 Indoor Championships in Sheffield. On Saturday, Luke and Sadie both doubled up in the long jump and hurdles, which created some challenges with both events taking place at the same time. Sadie was racing for the first time over the U17 hurdle spacing, and used the opportunity to gain race experience. She ran 9.59, followed by 9.45 to qualify for the final where she finished in a creditable 7th. In the long jump, she was engaged in a fine competition and her 5th round jump of 5.46m was enough to secure bronze with an indoor PB. Luke sailed through his hurdles heat, before lining up on the start line for the final. He stepped it up in the final to take a superb silver in a photo-finish, with a superb time of 8.50s. Just minutes later, he headed over to long jump and full of adrenaline, leaped out to 6.44m, a new U17 club record. This held the lead for a short while, but Luke had to settle for 2nd on countback after a competitor matched his jump.

On Sunday, Sadie returned over 200m and she qualified from her heat, but the exertions of the previous day meant that she wisely elected to miss the semi. Hannah Wilson started her 200m campaign with a win in her heat, and she back it up with a sub 26 clocking to win her semi-final. Lauren Creaby was in a high-class 800m competition, and ran a superb sub-2.20 heat to finish 2nd, but with a tough qualification she was not able to progress to the final. Alfie Ward was embroiled in a close senior long jump compeititon, and despite jumping 6.30m, he just missed out on a medal by 2cm.

Hannah closed the championships with her 200m final, and she gave it absolutely everything to run a time of 25.79s, an indoor club record, but was just pipped on the line by 0.02s as she finished 4th.
