Learn To Curl Team Goes Undefeated
at LTC Bonspiel

Saturday January 7 we had 5 graduates of this year's LTC program play in the annual Carleton Place LTC Bonspiel with 11 other teams from around the valley.

The team of Kathi and Brian Cullen with Lynne and Malcolm Brown (coached by Dan Bradshaw) went undefeated at 3 - 0, placing a close second in the overall points for the spiel.

Cathy Murphy teamed up with new curlers from Carleton Place and helped them to a hard fought 2 - 1 record, placing in the top half of the standings.

Everyone enjoyed a great day of curling and exposure to the social aspect of the game. Congratulations to all.
Have you missed curling over the past couple of years?
Half-Year Memberships are now available.
We'd love to have you back to enjoy the game once again. There's lots of opportunities to curl. Both the Fixed Team Open League (formerly the Men's League) and the Weakenders have openings for spares and additional teams. Plus there's lots of "drop-in" curling times throughout the week.

The cost is $370 (HST included) and that gets you unlimited curling until the ice goes out in early April.

Give the office a call at 613-283-4700 to arrange to re-join (or join if you've never been a member before.
League Updates
Open Fixed Team League

Going into the final week of the opening Round Robin, there is a logjam in the middle of the pack with seven teams within 2 points of each other. It could end up being a real head-scratcher for convenor Rick McGrath to figure out who goes into the A Division and who goes into the B Division for the second round.

Weakenders League

The Weakenders have started their second Round Robin. The Rycroft team finished the first round at the top with 8 wins, followed by Reynolds, Walton, McVeety and Vaillancourt.

These are our only two leagues that keep standings. There's lots of activity in our many other "drop-in" leagues.
Mark Your Calendar for a Special Event
The ice will be gone, but there is a special event in the works at the club.

Watch for the next newsletter for all the details.

You won't want to miss this!
How We Communicate With Our Members
With the bad weather forecasts late last week came the inevitable cancelations. And that meant we would have to get word out to everyone not to come to the rink. So this is a good time to review how we communicate to you, our members.
  1. Through direct email from the Club. These emails are sent using our website database. They will come from Smiths Falls Curling & Squash Club using <do-not-reply@curlingsquash.ca> as the FROM address. To make sure these emails don't go to your SPAM or JUNK, you should add this address to your contacts.

  2. Through an email service called MAILCHIMP. Newsletters like this one come to you this way. This lets us add photos and other "fancier" things to the emails. These also will come from Smiths Falls Curling & Squash Club BUT using <curling@bellnet.ca> as the FROM address. To make sure these emails don't go to your SPAM or JUNK, you should add this address to your contacts.

If you use GMAIL - READ THIS!

Google (Gmail) thinks it knows better than you what you want in your INBOX. If Gmail thinks an email is coming from a Business or Organization it will move it to the PROMOTIONS tab in your Gmail account.

If you find an email in your PROMOTIONS tab that you'd rather have come to your Inbox, you can drag it to your Inbox or Primary tab and from then on those emails will end up in your Inbox.

  3. Through the Facebook page. We will post any cancellations or other updates on the Club's Facebook page. Here's the link.

    https://facebook.com/100086198695905

If you haven't done so already, go to the Facebook page and LIKE and FOLLOW. HOWEVER, with the way Facebook works, there is no guarantee that you will be notified when we post something, so make sure you check if you are in doubt about the weather.

  4. On the HOME page of the website. Whenever possible we will post notices in the Club News section on the Home page.

  5. Squash Players will, on occasion, also receive emails through SportyHQ (the system we use for managing squash memberships and bookings).
