For the Third Sunday after the Epiphany
Pastor John’s sermon, “Dare You To Do It,” will reflect on the reading from Matthew 4:12-23 (click to read).

Hymns will include “Jesus Calls Us O’er the Tumult,” “Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore,” and “From the Nets of Our Labor”; the choir will sing Richard Farrant’s Hide Not Thou Thy Face from Us, O Lord and Call to Remembrance, O Lord.

Holly Tierney, Sunday School Coordinator

Why did the sinner go to the doctor?

He had a bad case of plank eye!

I like to think Jesus had a sense of humor with this parable. Let’s take a good look at how we can take those planks from our eyes!

Interested in Church Membership?

All are welcome into the worship, ministries, programs, and activities of the church. Joining the church as a covenant partner is a blessing to both those who join and the congregation — deepening our relationships with each other and our commitment to the transforming Way of Christ Jesus.

Message from Christian Action

Christian Action is heading up a Corner Pantry Winter Food Drive. NOW is the time our generous congregation can help refill holiday-emptied shelves. Our Winter Food Drive begins this Sunday, January 15, and ends two weeks later, Sunday, January 29. Paper, reusable plastic bags or boxes of donated items may be left in the Library Street foyer on Sundays and Monday to Thursday from 9AM to 1PM.

Most needed items are coffee, pasta sauce, cooking oil, dried fruits and nuts, mac n cheese, canned chicken or tuna. Body wash, lotion, shampoo and laundry detergent.

Visioning

Our Church's “Visioning Team” has been meeting regularly, pondering the insights shared from our congregation and from many organizations and individuals in our community, and reviewing the “Vital Signs” report on the survey of the church by Holy Cow! Consultants.

In last week's worship the Visioners asked us to give a brief response to the question, “What are your hopes and dreams for our church?” We will hear the last question this Sunday — so come to worship (in person or online) to add your thoughts to cloud of witnesses for our church. And then ... all these inputs will be refined by prayer and Spirit to propose a Purpose Statement for our congregation.

Stay tuned! — and come to worship!

Announcements

Our friend the Rev. Dr. Eileen Epperson invites you to two upcoming opportunities to bring clarity and spiritual purpose to your new year:

“Completing 2022 - Creating 2023” — We bring along into the new year unfinished business, unnoticed relationships, and promises made and not kept. We don't acknowledge accomplishments or regrets. The new year is burdened before it begins! Would you like a really new year? Saturday, 21 January, 10a-4p, via Zoom. Sliding scale fee.

Also: What is Your Story about Forgiveness? Wednesday, 25 January, 9:30a – 1:30p. In person at Wisdom House, 229 East Litchfield Road, Litchfield. Both led by Eileen Epperson; for more information please email info@forgivenesscoaching.com.

During December we had on average 118 households and 501 Individuals visit the pantry each week. This year was the busiest yet experienced by the pantry. Thank you for helping us to help so many people. We could not do it without our dedicated volunteers and supporters. Items on our "most wanted list" include coffee, dried fruit and nuts , canned beans, and mac n cheese.

We also provide personal care items and can always use:
shampoo, lotion, and body wash

We are always looking for volunteers.

Support for neighbors in need

We continue to encourage aid for the people of Ukraine, as the war grinds on. We are also mindful of people living through the devastation of hurricanes and flooding. The UCC gives us ways to channel our support so that donations go as directly as possible to neighbors in need.

And please pray without ceasing, for an end to hostilities.
