Nancy Cohen's work explores environmental and personal vulnerability. She is drawn to waterways in particular, with their almost human balance of fragility and strength, their perseverance through adversity—much of it inflicted by us—tracing lines of stress and hope through our landscapes. Nancy's work captures the fine fragile line between the internal and the external, working with Handmade paper and glass—both translucent, delicate, and yet unexpectedly tough and durable. For decades, these materials have played a central and natural role in work exploring dualities of vulnerability and strength. Both of those materials reflect what Nancy’s work has always been about – the dichotomy of nature being resilient and strong and fragile at the same time.
