UCPL will be closed all day Monday, Feb. 20 for Presidents Day.

Renovation update: basement is done, second floor ceilings are nearing completion, and we're preparing for the move back!

Renovation of our permanent building is chugging right along! The basement — which houses our IT department, building services, and storage space for both UCPL and the Historical Society of University City — is complete, and our movers are preparing to move items back into that area. The rest of the library is due for completion in late March, and we'll hopefully be able to welcome everyone back into the building soon after.
You can see from the photos above that the second floor is getting some finishing touches while the first floor waits for its turn (top). The entrance to the Gallery is getting its ceiling finished (middle left), while the second floor adult area (middle right) and teen area (bottom left) have their ceilings and lights already installed. The bathroom in the Gallery (bottom right) is nearly complete, with just a sink, a toilet, and a hand dryer left for installation. For more information and updates, visit the Renovation News page on our website, or find us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
Calling all kids! Join us next Thursday for a special storytime with Belle from Disney on Ice! Our favorite book-loving Disney Princess will read some of her favorite stories at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2 in the former University United Methodist Church (across the parking lot from our temporary location). This event is free and open to all!

New technology at our checkout desks

Over the past couple of years, UCPL staffers have been working hard to get all of the items in our  collection ready for RFID-based checkout and collection management, and in January, we finally wrapped up our project! Every circulation station is now equipped with a RFID antenna, which is intended speed up the checkout process in the same way as the new self-check machine at our temporary location, allowing us to check out a stack of three or four books all in one go! Our staff is still learning the ropes of this new checkout process, so please bear with us as we settle into the new procedures.
This technology is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

Reserve your spot now for an in-person workshop on internet basics Feb. 7

Join us on Tuesday, Feb. 7 for a free, in-person workshop about internet basics. This training session will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. in Suite 100 of the Lewis Collaborative Building, 725 Kingsland Ave.
Led by UCPL's community engagement librarian, Kevin Korinek, the workshop is intended for those who are new to the internet or who want to build more confidence finding information online and navigating websites. Attendees will learn about web browsers and search engines, build skills to navigate the internet, and discover tips and tricks for basic and advanced searching online. Computers will be provided for the training, as will snacks, water, and masks.
This workshop is made possible through the Public Library Association Digital Literacy Workshop Incentive, supported by AT&T.
To sign up for this workshop, send an email to reference@ucitylibrary.org or call Kevin at 314-727-3150.
