Parachute Canada is hosting a series of Community Conversations that aim to create a virtual gathering space connecting seniors with each other and experts to address the issues that matter most to them when it comes to aging in place healthily and safely. The theme for the upcoming community conversation in French is: The challenges of aging in place, healthily and independently, being held on February 2nd at noon (EST). Register here.

Funding Opportunity: Seniors Community Grant Program


Deadline: March 6, 2023, at 5 p.m. Eastern


Seniors Community Grants, ranging from $1,000 up to $25,000, help community organizations’ ability to provide opportunities for greater social inclusion, volunteerism and community engagement for older adults, from the safety of their homes or other safe environments.


The Seniors Community Grant Program funds local not-for-profit community groups and organizations to deliver projects, supports and resources that help older adults (aged 55+) to:

  • live independently

  • live with safety and security

  • stay connected to their community,

  • avoid isolation

  • achieve greater financial security and social connections

Drawing from provincial findings, Sarah Webster will discuss both positive and negative impacts of the pandemic and how local initiatives have adapted. She will conclude her presentation with the launch of a new resource: Planning a Virtual Conference: A Practical Guide. This resource covers the strategic and technical aspects of executing a virtual event, and includes key considerations and prompts about how to tailor any virtual event to align with the goals and capacity of your team. Exploring the Intersections between Caregiving and Age-Friendly Communities (webinar)

There are 4 million caregivers in Ontario; ordinary people who provide physical and emotional support to a family member, partner, friend or neighbour. A third of caregivers report they provide approximately 10 hours of care or more each week as they navigate the community for both themselves and the people they care for. Join us for a session with the Ontario Caregiver Organization as we learn more about Ontario’s caregivers, and explore the intersections between caregiving and Age-Friendly Communities. About the Ontario Age-Friendly Communities (AFC) Outreach Program

The Ontario AFC Outreach Program is managed by the Centre for Studies in Aging & Health at Providence Care in partnership with Queen’s University, and funded by the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility.

The AFC Outreach Program builds on and complements Ontario's AFC Planning Guide and the AFC Planning Grant Program, with the aim to raise awareness about age-friendly planning principles, facilitate knowledge sharing within and between communities, and increase the capacity for local planning, implementation and evaluation of age-friendly community initiatives.
