The Legendary Eartha Kitt
February is Black History Month. Pound Ridge has been home to a host of African-Americans and Black Americans that have shaped our world’s history. Among these impressive figures is the legendary and electric Eartha Kitt, who lived in Pound Ridge in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Often best known for her recordings of "C'est si bon," her ubiquitous Christmas classic "Santa Baby," and her creation of the iconic “Cat Woman” on the show Batman, Eartha Kitt was a trailblazer in the entertainment world. She was born in the cotton fields of South Carolina to a sharecropper mother of African-American and Cherokee descent. She never knew her white father. Her journey to fame was not an easy one but Eartha’s talents, passion, and electric personality prevailed. She became one of the most charismatic, recognizable, and successful stars in the world before her death in 2008.
