"The reason for doing drawings is to experiment. Unlike 'writer’s block' when words might be elusive, I am not at a loss for the images that I want to make — just the opposite — but I want to push what I think is good in what I have done. I have always turned to oil pastels as a means to try to move forward. I’m not sure why, except I like their immediate intensity and the ease."

"These cliffs [depicted in Rolling] are right outside my house. The sun constantly plays magic on the undulating rocks and crevices. When the clouds roll by, they often mimic those same rolls while contrasting the softness of the fleeting clouds and the hardness of the enduring stone. Quite a backyard!"

“After some time working with the branches and tree trunks I realized that my muses could be arranged to interact between themselves, forming an anthropomorphic story. Sometimes these interactions are based on my personal life, or social situations, but they have always responded to something specific in the gesture or attitude of the actual real object."
– Katie DeGroot
