DigitalFUTURES Tutorials are a series of events throughout the year where invited instructors give short 2 hour instructions on specific tools or techniques. Started in 2021 to help students learn and try new tools. Each tutorial session students can register to join the zoom meeting as well watch on our YouTube channel during the live stream or the recording after the event.

Grasshopper is a popular visual programming language used in architectural and industrial design. It provides a user-friendly interface to create complex 3D models with simple programming concepts. This entry-level tutorial is designed to introduce you to the basic features of Grasshopper. You will learn how to create basic geometry and manipulate it with programming concepts.
By the end of this tutorial, you will have a solid understanding of Grasshopper and be able to create simple models on your own. Whether you are new to programming or have experience, this tutorial will give you the foundational skills needed to explore the full potential of Grasshopper and take your designs to the next level.

This tutorial explains how to transform a design into a series of curves and paths for a 3D printer to use, as well as how to write and create G-code directly within Grasshopper®, without the use of scripts or plug-ins, in easy format for existing Grasshopper® users to understand. It is based on the book 'Advanced 3d printing with Grasshopper: Clay and FDM' written by Diego and Gianluca Pugliese in 2020. Big experience using the software is not required, but skilled users will be able to take full advantage of this tutorial. The methods taught open up a wide range of new possibilities when 3D printing, like non-planar printing or non-conventional paths for the 3D printer.
