Class of 2026

SOHS Restated Articles of Incorporation December 10, 2010, Article IV, Sections C&D read:

C. The Board of Trustees shall, at least sixty days prior to the election, invite nominations from the membership for trustee vacancies by publishing notice in Society publications including those distributed electronically-

D. Not less than 45 days before the election the Board of Trustees shall receive and act on a list of nominees presented by its nominating committee. The secretary shall secure information and statements from nominees which will be enclosed with ballots. Ballots shall provide space for members to write in nominees for open trustee positions.

Nominations for the Class of 2026 and the window to submit names for consideration is open. Please submit any names for consideration, within 60 days of this Notice, to:
boardsecretary@sohs.org

The following individuals are nominated, to date, by SOHS Board of Trustee’s.

Sheila Baker (Incumbent)
Sheila is a native, fifth generation Oregonian, currently living in Eugene. Her most recent career was in health care, helping to start the Surgery Center of Southern Oregon. After marrying and moving to Eugene she continued as an administrative health care consultant on a national basis. She comes to the Rogue Valley frequently, reminded of her roots and deep love of the valley and it’s rich and vibrant history and the very important role of the Southern Oregon Historical Society to Keep History Alive! “I am honored to be serving as the Trustee Secretary since 2018, and to be a part of this incredible organization and help usher in the future of sharing all aspects of what makes the Rogue Valley’s history critical to today’s social, economic and cultural understanding and diversity.”

Kevin Keating (Incumbent)
Kevin Keating has been a resident of Medford and member of SOHS since 2001, and a SOHS Trustee since 2019. He has served on several city volunteer boards, including the Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission and Parks and Rec Commission. He has a BA in History from UCLA and an MA in Teaching from SOU. He taught history in Butte Falls from 2004-2010 and at St. Mary's since 2010 and authored a book on Medford in 2011. SOHS has always been important to him, and he is proud that our community supports a place to keep alive the very interesting history of Southern Oregon.

Bob Russell (Incumbent)
Native Oregonian, Bob was born and raised in Portland. He moved to Eagle Point after purchasing the historic Butte Creek Mill in 2005. He currently serves on the advisory Board of the Butte Creek Mill Foundation, and as a SOHS Trustee since 2018. He is a graduate of Oregon State University. He has been an Officer with Eagle Point and the Upper Rogue Chamber of Commerce for 17 years, was the Mayor of Eagle Point four terms from 2011 to 2019. He continues to serve on the Board of the Oregon Mayors Association. He currently owns the Butte Creek Mill Antiques in Eagle Point. “Serving as a Trustee for SOHS is an honor. I look forward to helping build a solid and stable base moving forward.”

Doug Smith, (ret) OD (Incumbent)
Douglas G Smith OD is a retired Optometric Physician who practiced in the Rogue Valley from 1979 to 2021. He engaged in private clinical practice as well as having allied staff privileges at Rogue Valley Medical Center and Providence Medford Medical Center in the Neuro Rehabilitation Units. He is a life-long enthusiast for the natural environment, geology, anthropology, and history of the western United States. He has served as a SOHS Trustee since 2021. “I volunteer every Friday morning as part of an on-call work crew, maintaining, preserving and contributing upkeep effort at the SOHS Hanley Farm Museum. It is most rewarding. The Southern Oregon Historical Society with its properties, vast collections, varied programs, and community focused activities, is an organization to which I commit time and energy. I am honored to currently serve on its Board.”

These names will appear on a Ballot, to be mailed 15 days prior to the Election. Please submit any additional names for consideration for this Ballot to:
