This February, Local Return joins many partners around the U.S. to support Black-owned businesses. Let’s inspire our communities to help build Black wealth and celebrate the rich culture and diversity that make up our economy and communities.
Here are some things you can do:
- Choose Black-owned businesses. We have listed on our website a few of Rhode Island's Black-owned businesses that have been shouted out by friends of Local Return. Let us know who else we should add to the list!
- Ask your favorite locally-owned businesses if they carry products made or grown by Black-owned businesses.
- Amplify the "Shop Black-Owned" message. Use #ShopBlackOwned on social media, and share a message about why this matters with your family and friends.
- Back organizations that support Black-owned businesses, like the Rhode Island Black Business Association and African Alliance of Rhode Island. Both organizations are nonprofits that are sustained by charitable contributions.
Together, we can build stronger local economies that are diverse, inclusive, and equitable.

Valentines Day is just seven short days from today. If you're feeling moved to celebrate, choose indie and local! Need a few ideas? Think scrumptious treats from Sin Bakery, an irresistibly cute card from E Frances Paper, a lively arrangement from Check the Florist, spring reservations aboard the Blackstone River Explorer, local whiskey from Sons of Liberty Spirits, or a romantic dinner out at any of Rhode Island's fabulous eateries.
When it comes to love, love local. Your Valentine will thank you.
