Highland Park Water and Wastewater Improvements Project

Construction in progress; Water outage for some residents on February 9

Construction is in progress on the Highland Park Water and Wastewater Improvements Phase 2 project. The crew will be around the intersection of Balcones and Perry Lane this week. Work will then move to Crestway Drive/Perry Lane next week to perform the waterline installation.

Please note that the contractor will need to jump from one section to another to meet the work sequence. Access to all businesses and homes will be maintained during this work. Typical work hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and may include some weekend work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Traffic control will be setup at the start of each workday and will be removed at the end of each workday. Appropriate traffic signs and detours will be available during the construction work.

Water Outage Planned – Feb 9, 2023

The new water lines are planned to be connected to the existing system on February 9. There will be a water outage from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the connection work along Balcones Drive from Big Bend to Madrona Drive; Perry Lane from Balcones to Shadow Lane; and Shadow Lane. Affected customers will be notified of this outage with a notice left on their front door at least two days in advance. Customers are asked to store water for essential uses during this outage by filling water pitchers and/or filling a bathtub.

Final paving of the streets will be performed at the end of the project, currently scheduled for summer of 2023. Similar traffic control setup will be utilized again when the contractor returns for the final paving work.

Please observe traffic/detour signs and use caution in the construction area.

Please note that construction schedules can be affected by weather conditions. We will continue to provide updates if there is a schedule change. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to providing the necessary utility improvements in the neighborhood.

Project Overview
The Highland Park Water & Wastewater Improvement Project is constructing a second water line to feed into the area. The project runs about three miles from Far West Blvd. to Crestway Dr. with much of the work being done along Balcones Drive.

Water line breaks are well documented in this area, and the existing 12-inch line is a dead-end and not connected or looped with other water lines. The new 16-inch line will improve water service and fire protection in the area and allow for the decommissioning of an antiquated pump station and reservoir located on Ridge Oak Drive.
