Alumni in the News
It is no secret, young farmers are our future, and no state’s future in agriculture is brighter than that of Illinois. As we all know, Illinois is brimming with farmers of all specialties who truly operate in a league all their own. That’s why the IL Soybean Association is excited to launch year two of the Illinois 20 Under 40 program, recognizing 20 new young farmers for the work they do in the agricultural community and beyond.
“We are looking for young farmers in Illinois whose achievements in agriculture of the community stand out from their peers,” says ISA Chairman,
Steve Pitstick (IALP '00). “Someone going beyond jobs on the farm and excelling in the industry in the early years of their career.”

Richard Ryan Economics & the
Marketplace Seminar
The Class of 2023 spent 3 days in Chicago for the Richard Ryan Economics & the Marketplace Seminar on January 18 - 20. This seminar provides the opportunity for the Class to learn about global markets, financing, currency and the business culture, better comprehend the scope and complexities of economic policy as it relates to agricultural issues, better understand the organization and functions of financial institutions, study the futures industry and and the exchanges' impact on the market, and develop an understanding of leadership in business.
Wednesday started with a presentation at the Federal Reserve Bank followed by a presentation given by the Civic Federation on the state of Illinois' budget and financial situation. Thursday was spent at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where the Class had the opportunity to hear from professors on economics and the labor force.
Friday morning was spent at the Chicago Board of Trade hearing from Lakefront Futures & Options, LLC & Joe Grider (IALP '10) discussing futures and trading. We were also able to see the new CBOE floor, while it is not as extensive as the "original" trading floor it was very interesting to watch!
We would like to thank Richard E Ryan for endowing this seminar and his connections and the University of Chicago. Our next seminar will be on February 9th & 10th  in Champaign at the University of Illinois, it is our Ron & Melanie Warfield International Perspectives Seminar.
