The 94th General Legislative Assembly is underway and -- the Republicans seem to exceed each mean-spirited, ill-conceived proposed piece of legislation with another that's even worse, more hateful and likely unconstitutional.
There's maybe never been a more important time to dig in and get involved as a Democrat. We can't just get mad. We've got to come together and apply pressure on policymakers.
In Other News... February is for showing some love 💙 to our candidates and volunteers. Join us for a free appreciation event on Feb. 13. And much more.
PAY AR TEACHERS
Democrats Stand Up For Teachers and Students;
Need Our Help to Mobilize Votes
Democratic caucus leaders Senator Greg Leding (D-Fayetteville) and Representative Tippi McCullough (D-Little Rock) unveiled the RAISE Act of 2023 and classified staff raise bills in Little Rock last week. Every Democratic member of the state legislature is a co-sponsor of the bills. If passed, the educator raises would be funded from a portion of the state’s general revenue, with the state budget surplus having exceeded $1 billion last year.
The legislation filed by House and Senate Democrats pitches big investments in public school teachers and staff.
The RAISE Act (HB1268) would raise starting salaries from $36,000 to $50,000 and provide a $10,000 raise to teachers.
SB149, the companion bill in the Senate, would provide raises to classified staff and set the minimum hourly wage for classified staff at $15.
What can we do? It's time to RAISE up -- Call and email your legislator TODAY. Tell your legislator to raise teacher pay and to raise staff pay now with the RAISE Act of 2023.
