The Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services 2022 Year in Review

Our mission is to make homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring in Baltimore City. We are reminded of the work ahead as we celebrate last years's outcomes of our Mission in Action. Access to affordable housing and a more efficient homeless response system guide our strategic plans for 2023.

Thanks to the collaborative effort of our community - the Continuum of Care, partners, funders, service providers, advocates, and community members, we were able to do the following:

  • Support 1,443 households as they exited homelessness.

  • Shelter 2,041 neighbors in their most vulnerable time of need.

  • Provide 2,274 households with ongoing assistance and stable housing.

  • Have over 66,000 interactions with our neighbors that connected them to housing and other supportive services.

We look forward to renewed commitment and increased efforts in 2023 as we fight to end homelessness in Baltimore City.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, the Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services hosted a week-long drop-in resource center at the Baltimore War Memorial for individuals experiencing homelessness. From January 16th to January 20th, 5-8 service providers volunteered and offered services such as transportation to Winter Shelter, food, coordinated access support, hairstyling, identity access, and more.

We would like to thank all the MOHS staff, partners, and providers that participated! Together, we were able to engage our neighbors and provide them with valuable resources. Stay tuned for more details on how many people we supported during the resource center by following MOHS on social media @BaltimoreMOHS.

Baltimore City’s Point-In-Time Count Helps the City Access Vital Federal and State Resources
Left to Right: Anthony Williams (Co-chair, Baltimore’s Continuum of Care), Irene Agustin (Executive Director, Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services), Deputy Secretary Donald Remy (U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs), Faith Leach (Deputy Mayor for Equity Health & Human Services/Acting City Administrator), and Lee Martin (Program Director, Our Daily Bread Employment Center).

PIT Count volunteers listen to speakers and receive training before canvassing the city.

Baltimore City held its 2023 Point-In-Time (PIT) Count on the evenings of January 22nd and January 23rd. The PIT Count is a HUD-mandated assessment that provides a snapshot of how many people are experiencing sheltered and unsheltered homelessness in a community on a given night.

Ninety volunteers canvassed the city to administer surveys and vital resources to our neighbors experiencing unsheltered homelessness; neighbors residing in shelters and transitional housing were also surveyed. Data collected during this PIT Count helps the city access vital Federal and State homeless services resources needed to house our neighbors.

Thank you to Our Daily Bread Employment Center of Catholic Charities for hosting the PIT Count; thank you to all our guests and volunteers, including Deputy Secretary Donald Remy from the Department of Veteran Affairs, Deputy Mayor and Acting City Administrator Faith Leach, members of the CoC, and residents of Baltimore.
