Dear Niwot Elementary Families,

Learning Celebrations are coming up this week on February 7, 8, 9. Be looking for more information from your teacher and the opportunity to sign-up. Learning Celebrations are our Winter Parent-Teacher Conferences where students have the opportunity to lead the time together. Please also check out the Mwebaza Art Fundraiser while you visit the school for Learning Celebrations.

Lost and Found is overflowing! Please take a moment to check out the rack in front of the school during drop-off or pick-up. Also, during Learning Celebrations is another great opportunity to see what your child might be missing.

Another important reminder to please go online to nominate a Niwot Elemetary Teacher of the Year. Each year the St. Vrain Valley Education Foundation honors outstanding educators from around the district. If you would like to nominate an outstanding teacher from Niwot Elementary, here is your opportunity to do so. Please click on the link below and nominate one of our amazing teachers:  https://stvrainfoundation.org/programs/tribute-to-teachers/. We always have a large amount of teachers nominated every year and we look forward to the same this year. Thanks for taking the time to recognize our awesome teachers!

Please let me know what you need and how I can support you.

Sincerely,

Nancy Pitz
Principal

Wednesday, March 1, 2023: Building Resilience in You, Your Child, and Your Family

  • 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Innovation Center of St. Vrain Valley Schools
  • Presented by Dr. Shelly Mahon
  • Description: The world has changed for a variety of reasons over the last few years, but one thing remained the same – our ability to be resilient. While the challenges we’ve faced can cause fear and worry, they also create opportunities to build resilience in ways we have not been exposed to in the past. Almost a half a century of research tells us that parents/caregivers are the number one source of a child’s resilience. So, what does that look like and how do you create that environment? In this interactive conversation, we will explore what resilience looks like for you, your child, and your family. We will address myths and dig into specific strategies that leave you empowered to go home and apply what you’ve uncovered and learned. You will see that resilience is in each and every one of us, it simply needs to be grown and nurtured.
Please consider supporting a Niwot High School student and her IB CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) project!
A reminder that students are outside for morning line-up and recesses when the temperature is 17 degrees or above (includes wind chill). Please remember to send your child to school with appropriate winter gear. Also, students are only allowed in the snow at recess if they have snow boots and snow pants on. If they don't have these items they will still be able to play on the blacktop.
The attendance policy at Niwot Elementary is one in which the first 10 absences are excused as long as there is communication with the school.  After 10 excused absences in a school year, a doctor’s note is required in order to excuse future absences.  A student will be considered "habitually" truant when he/she has 4 unexcused absences in a month or 10 total unexcused absences in a school year.   When a student is habitually truant the SVVSD School Advocate can potentially be involved and an Attendance Plan could be put into place.

The half year insurance fee is now available in Infinite Campus. As new students enroll, the student should automatically be assigned the DTS: 1:1 Tech Insurance S2 ONLY 12.50 fee with an expiration date of two (2) weeks. Parents have two (2) weeks to pay the fee before it is automatically voided.

You may also offer the half year insurance to current students who did not opt into insurance in Fall 2022. However, you will need to inspect the iPad first to make sure it is in working condition before offering the insurance.

Spring 2023 Insurance: $12.50

When is being sick too sick to come to school?

A child's ability to learn, perform and behave can depend on how they feel physically and illness plays a significant role in school absences. Often parents don’t understand when their child is too sick for school and when they can safely send them to school.  If a student has a contagious illness that could cause illness in other children, they should stay home.

Students can come and remain at school if:

  • They have a runny nose and a slight cough, but no other symptoms

  • They have been fever free for 24 hours without taking any fever reducing medicine.

  • Haven’t thrown up or had any diarrhea for 24 hours.

Students should remain home if:

  • The child doesn’t feel well enough to take part in normal activities

  • The child needs more care than teachers and staff can give, and still care for the other children.

The Health Services department follows guidelines developed by the Colorado Children’s Hospital when making a determination if a student is too sick to be at school.  We also work closely with our local public health departments in Weld and Boulder Counties for communicable disease control guidance.
