This is one of the world’s largest fully protected areas! 2) Learned about the research opportunities that are provided to kānaka 'ōiwi (Native Hawaiian) youth to support 'āina momona (fertile or rich land) with indigenous knowledge as the foundation. 3) Having the right support to collect good and accurate data is important to help us tell our stories effectively! #IMPAC5 #ProtectBlueNature
IMPAC 5 Canada PHOTOS - How do we actively manage #MPAs and human activity?
This is a major theme we are exploring today at #IMPAC5, starting with three thought-provoking keynote addresses by Daniel Paule, Michael Vegh and Sylvia Earle.
"It is quasi-impossible to assert, with a straight face, that MPAs do not work the way they are intended too"
Daniel Pauly highlighted the danger of paper parks as we work our way towards #30x30.
“We must never lose sight of showing up for future generations.”
Michael Vegh described his Nation's profound relationship with nature and advocated for more Indigenous-led conservation.
“The biggest thing we take from nature is our existence.”
Sylvia Earle urged us to take care of nature and to change the trajectory of decline to one of recovery for our blue planet in her inspiring speech.
