My January was relatively quiet until last week. I taught and presented a few times, celebrating Lunar New Year's day, and announced two Korea Textile Tours of 2023. My husband and I've been dreaming about taking a trans-America trip. So we decided to go on an adventure this time. We flew to Boston to visit close friends and started our journey back home. The first leg is from Boston to Chicago and it took a 22 hour train ride. I am at the Chicago Union station and waiting for my next train. To the final destination, Emeryville will take 52 more hours. As many of you guessed, I brought my sewing pouch with me and am excited to put pieces of squares together while I pass the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada. My collaboration piece with my father's calligraphy practice sheets is growing slowly but steadily. I also brought a small Saeksilnubi piece and decide to nubi (qult) during the trip.
Since the Lunar New Year came early this year, the first full moon of the year of the Rabbit also is coming early. It will be this Sunday, February, 5th. It is called Jeongwol Daeboreum, 정월 대보름. I usually prepare 5 different kinds of mixed grain rice and 5 namul (cooked vegetables) for this day. Koreans prepare various nuts in shells such as peanuts, walnuts, chestnuts, and ginko nuts. In the morning, people crack open nuts and wish for a happy and healthy year. When the full moon rises in the evening, people go out and watch the moon and wish for their family members' good health and happiness. If I can make home on time, I will make this food to follow the tradition this time. Or I might stop by the grocery store and pick up a few dishes.
My February teaching trips are lined up and I am excited to meet people in Austin, TX, (I still have a few spots left!) and Atlanta, GA (QuiltCon!) If you signed up for my workshops or classes, I will see you there!
P.S.
I made it home safely after a few hours of delay. I was able to add some more stitches and photos.
Have a wonderful month!!
