SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY

Dear Friends,

This Sunday we hear a final passage from the Sermon on the Mount.  Jesus talks about what it means to fulfil Jewish law with regards to murder, anger, divorce, adultery, and swearing oaths.  Jesus insists that he has come to fulfil rather than abolish the law.  What does this mean for us?

A note about coverage during my medical leave February 14 until approximately March 28:

We've been in touch with the bishop's office and it is proving impossible to find one interim priest to cover for me.  So coverage is being stitched together with various clerics providing assistance.  Here is a list of coverage for Sundays, Ash Wednesday, and Bible Study

Ash Wednesday, February 22 - The Ven. Alan Perry
Sunday, February 26 - The Ven. Alan Perry
Sunday, March 5 - The Rev'd Arthur Boers
Sunday, March 12 - The Ven. Alan Perry
Sunday, March 19 - The Ven. Alan Perry
Sunday, March 26 - The Ven. Alan Perry

Bible Study Wednesday Feb 15, Mar 1, 15, and 22 - The Rev'd Ali McIntosh
Bible Study Wednesday Mar 8 - The Rev'd Canon Dr. Andrew Sheldon
There is no Bible Study on Ash Wednesday, February 22.

In case of pastoral emergency, such as a death in the family, please contact the The Rev'd Canon Janet Read-Hockin, priest at St. Cuthbert's 416-648-1418

Take care,

Megan

God of peace and justice,
we pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
for wisdom, discernment, and compassion to guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,
that you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen.

From Archbishops Justin Welby and Stephen Cottrell

Weekly Bulletin Announcements
Advisory Board February 2023:  Megan and the churchwardens have made the decision to cancel the February 2023 Advisory Board meeting scheduled for February 14 at 7pm.  The reason is that the churchwardens are travelling and Megan will have begun her medical leave.  Advisory Board will have the chance to gather before we hold our annual vestry.

Prayer Requests:  It is helpful for the prayer leaders to have names and requests in advance - please direct them to the church office early in the week if possible. Last minute requests may be added on Sundays to the list at the back of the worship space.

Church offerings:  Thanks to all who are keeping up with their regular offerings.  Please be advised that regular PAR donations are encouraged because they reduce accounting work for volunteers and provide a predictable stream of income. You can also donate online from our website, by clicking HERE

Egg Cartons and Used Postage Stamps: The food bank is always in need of empty egg cartons to replenish them with fresh eggs. Used postage stamps are collected to support the Leprosy Mission. Both items can be left on the table in the Narthex.

Donation Receipts: The donation tax receipts for 2022 contributions have been mailed out.

Spoken Eucharist Service: The next 8:30 a.m. service will be held on Sunday, March 5th, 2023.
Thank-you!
Thanks to all the committee chairs who have been working on their vestry reports and submitting them to the office in advance of the February 12 deadline.  Your cooperation allows the office to prepare all the vestry materials in a timely manner.
