Friday 3rd February 2023, a night at the iconic Ronnie Scott's Club, London with the legendary Buddy Rich Big Band. The main picture is with me and Buddy Rich's daughter Cathy Rich, a great singer and lovely person. The other guy is Gregg Potter who holds the drum seat in the Buddy Rich Band. Not only a very friendly guy but an incredible drummer as one would expect for a band of this calibre.

WHAT I'VE BEEN PRACTICING RECENTLY

THE ART OF LATIN DRUMMING by Jose Rosa and Hector "pocho" Neciosup. Described as a new approach to learn traditional Afro-Cuban and Latin American rhythms on drum set. I'm only on the third chapter and so far it's been very much based around the various types of clave patterns. It's definitely interesting and gets the creative juices flowing.

WHAT I'VE BEEN READING RECENTLY

First published in 1965, STONER is the story of a farm boy turned academic whose life is full of disappointments. It wasn't until 2011 that this novel gained any sight of success in Europe. It was originally published in the US but it was largely ignored. Now considered something of a classic.
A story about work, family and all the relationships in between.

WHAT I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO RECENTLY

An album I love revisiting. Originally RELEASED IN 2012, this record is one of those timeless pieces of music. Great songs, fantastic musicianship and creative thinking make this a modern day classic. Funk soul grooves, beautiful vocals with plenty of attitude. If you don't know it check it out.

I can' remember if I have put this into another newsletter or not. Anyway here it is again if I did.
Did you try them out? Try using different drums or cymbals for each hand. What tempo can you get them up to?

A very belated Happy New Year to everyone, January seemed to go very slowly but I've finally managed to get my first FFFD out for 2023. If you enjoy this then please share it with drummer friends, or friends that may not be drummers even.
