Tech Tip: Inviting attendees to a virtual meeting or class

An important part of planning your online class or event is to share the virtual meeting link.  This can be posted in a Quercus course or shared directly with invited participants.  When sharing in Quercus, only your students have access to the meeting information; however, if you are intending to reach a greater number of people, consider the following:

  • Avoid posting the meeting information (meeting ID and passcode) in a public space on the internet such as social media.  This can make your meeting susceptible to access by those with malicious intent, or “zoom-bombing”.  Unsecure access also compromises the privacy of any sensitive or confidential matter discussed in a class.
  • If you are looking to attract a wider audience for a presentation or talk, utilize the ”Registration” feature in Zoom or the ”meeting with Registration” option in MS Teams Meeting to collect a list of registrants who can enter the meeting room and provide them with a personal meeting invite.
