Principal's Message
The days are starting to get longer and spring is right around the corner. Planning for graduation, prom and all things spring are underway at Apollo. Over the last month our 8th-11th graders have been making important decisions on what classes to take for next year during the registration process that is now wrapping up. Our winter activities are entering into playoffs or their last events of the winter season.  We are in the last weeks of trimester 2 and students at Apollo are working hard to finish this trimester strong!  With all the excitement that is happening right now I wanted to say thank you for all you do for your Apollo student.  We are very fortunate at Apollo to have such amazing families that support their students and help them to be successful. Be sure to pay special attention to our "Important Dates" section in this issue. We have MANY exciting events happening at Apollo this spring!
State Testing Information
Dedicated testing days: March 15 and April 18, 2023
Each year the state of Minnesota requires school districts to conduct required assessments for various purposes. This year, we are excited to offer an opportunity for students to complete these requirements without missing any of their current classes. We hope that by providing a more conducive testing environment for all students and increasing the understanding of the purpose of these tests, it will increase engagement and motivation to do well on these tests.

The first dedicated testing day will be March 15th, 2023.  On February 16, students will see a detailed presentation about the schedule and expectations for all students on March 15th.  Below is information about who is testing and who is engaged in e-learning.  If your student is on an IEP and in a special education program, the case managers and staff working with your student will reach out with a more individualized plan for these days.

Students who will report to school on March 15 include:
  • ALL Multilingual learners (EL students) grades 9-12 will report to school and take the ACCESS test.
  • ALL Juniors (who are not ACCESS testing) will report to school and take the Math MCAs.
  • Transportation will run as normal
  • Breakfast and lunches will be served

Students who will remain at home for an e-learning day include:
  • ALL 9th grade students (who are not access testing) will stay home for an e-learning day.
  • ALL 10th grade students (who are not access testing) will stay home for an e-learning day.
  • ALL seniors (who are not access testing) will stay home for an e-learning day, fill out scholarships, and/or visit colleges.
  • Non-testing students will engage in an e-learning day where they will work on Career and College Readiness lesson(s) through the program Xello, in addition to participating in other on-line activities.
  • Students must log into Schoology by 10:00AM to be marked ‘present’ for attendance.

The second dedicated testing day will be April 18, 2023.  More details to follow, however here is a quick outline.

Apollo Happenings
Apollo hosted a Student Summit in January. Students from North, Kennedy and Apollo pulled together to share their insight and perspective on a variety of questions focused on climate and culture.  Students participated in small round table discussions that were then recorded to be shared with each school.  It was an amazing event!
BARR
This is the Apollo BARR I-time lesson bulletin board. These are some of the past I-time lesson projects. In the month of February, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, Health, and Algebra teachers will facilitate I-time lessons of Golden Nuggets, Grief and Loss, and Lollipop Moments. Ask your Apollo student about the weekly I-time lesson.

If you have suggestions, feedback, or questions about BARR, please email or call me.

Apollo Activities
We have many opportunities for students to get involved. Spring activities start in March.

Boys in grades 7-12 can play lacrosse, tennis, track and field, baseball and golf. Girls can play lacrosse, track and field, golf and softball.
All students in grades 6 can play softball, baseball, and track and field. Our students with special needs can also play adapted softball. Each school also offers other activities like speech, art club, game club, theater and so much more. Stop by the activities office to learn more.

We use a program called Affinitey to get students registered for activities. To register, go to
tinyurl.com/affinitey. You can find this link on your school’s website under “activities”. We also have paper registration forms in the activities office.
Students who register for sports must have a physical. You can get one from your doctor or go to the walk-in clinic at CVS on 25th Ave. All sports have registration fees. We have scholarships and equipment available for families who need help. We also have after school meals for students who participate.
