Margaret Beck (on the left) and Connie Miller (on the right) make up the amazing team responsible for online book sales for the Friends of the Orinda Library. They are quietly making a huge impact on the successful financial health of the library. Online sales are one of the largest sources of fundraising for the library. How do they do it??!! Both have given many, many hours to the project. They are treasure seekers...looking for the perfect fit for online sales from the varied donations that come into the sorting room. Books are sold on eBay and on Amazon if they fit certain criteria. For Amazon they look for titles that are in good condition, high in popularity and cost....ones that might not be a perfect fit for the bookshop. eBay sales focus on special volumes, especially ones that are signed and are vintage. These generous volunteers not only research and market our books online, they are responsible for packaging and shipping them out quickly. The work is fascinating and both women admit to learning a lot as they do their work. If you love books and relish the idea of working with special volumes, you might be a perfect fit for this team. Contact Margaret Beck to learn more about online book sales.

New Painting Class Continues This Month
THE JOY OF CHINESE BRUSH PAINTING
|
|
|
Sponsored by the Friends of the Orinda Library and the Eng Family Endowment, this special series of four classes is being taught by Pauline Tsui. The classes are held at the library on Mondays from 10:30-12:00. They started on January 23rd and will run through February 13th. Materials are provided in class. The class is quite full, but there may still be an opening if you would like to join in.
Students are learning to paint with Chinese ink and watercolors and render seasonal flowers and small animals using Chinese brushes. New techniques will be taught each week. In each session, an art project will be completed based on application of those skills; the following class will begin with simple techniques, and students will use cumulative learning to complete another project.
Pauline's blog: https://pia33.com/events
Registration required. Participants only need to sign up once for all four classes.

FIRST IN-PERSON EVENT FASCINATING AND FUN!
After three years, the Orinda Library was able to host a wonderful in-person event on Wednesday evening, January 11th. The well attended presentation in the library auditorium was presented by the de Young Museum's George and Judy Marcus Distinguished Curator and Curator in Charge of Ancient Art, Renee Dreyfus. Made possible by the Friends of the Orinda Library and Senior Community Library manager, Michael Beller, the talk highlighted some of the amazing artifacts from the current show at the de Young Museum and the stories behind them. Adding a special touch to a wonderful evening, our speaker was Michael Beller's mother and her delight in being in Orinda was evident in her warm presentation. Hopefully this will be the first of many more enriching in-person events offered by the library in the coming year.
