After 3 years, the North Carolina HIP Music Festival returns!

Mallarmé Music hosts the North Carolina HIP (Historically Informed Performance) Festival to showcase Renaissance, Baroque and Classical era music performed on period instruments with historical performance practices.

While shows including Bridgerton and The Great have inspired an interest in historical music, festival attendees can explore the carefully curated music of the past brought to life by world-class musicians. Drawing from the wealth of outstanding early music ensembles based in North Carolina and beyond, the North Carolina HIP Festival will showcase over 60 musicians from eight different organizations in 17 events.

Mediterranean Holiday!  The Triangle Recorder Society will celebrate the end of winter and the return of its Spring Workshop with a tour of Southern Europe, visiting France, Spain, and Italy.  Your musical tour guides will include Stewart Carter, Phil Hollar, Holly Maurer, Pat Petersen, Kathy Schenley, Jennifer Streeter, and Doug Young.

We are delighted to be able to keep the price, $95 for members for all day, the same, despite recent inflationary pressures.  Lunch may be ordered separately.  Look for more detailed information about registration after the first of the year here: http://www.trianglerecorder.org/spring-workshop.html
Local recorder ensemble Flauto Dolce played at RDU, terminal 1, ticketing, on Friday, December 30!  FYI, Kay Bailey no longer conducts her Bransler group, so Flauto Dolce invited Bransler players to join them. So three of the players here had never played at the airport before and they were pleased with our reception by travelers...we all were!  - Jan Jenkins

Please support TRS by joining - our membership numbers for 2022-23 are low

This year our dues are $80.00 for the entire season as a sustainer member. That covers the anthology and other music, as well as all nine playing sessions!  These dues go to paying the music directors for their time and effort, as well as our printed music, and expenses for our online presence.  If you are able, TRS appreciates your sustainer membership even if you can't attend all of the sessions.  We rely on membership dues to support our organization

If you prefer to pay per session, each session is $15.00.  If you are a first time visitor, your first playing session is free. The cost for the anthology is $15.00.

Please fill out the membership form on our website! Thanks to Jennifer Streeter for updating it. There is also a paypal button if you'd like to pay $15 per session.

Membership Form:  http://www.trianglerecorder.org/join-us.html

You can pay by check on February 12. Give checks made out to Triangle Recorder Society to TRS treasurer Nancy Williamson. Or you can use Paypal.  Thank you for supporting TRS!

We encourage all TRS members to also  join the American Recorder Society.  TRS is a chapter of ARS.

I am selling some seldom-used items.  Here are two that may be of interest to local early-music players:

-  Medieval fiddle or rebec (Emmo Kolch, Bremen, c. 1950).  4 metal strings, tuned like a viola with removable nylon frets.  With bow and bag.  Asking $100.

News for ARS Members

The Winter 2022 issue of American Recorder magazine is available online.

Music for Play-the-Recorder 2023

March is Play-the-Recorder Month, and the 2023 Play-the-Recorder-Month (PtRM) preparations are well under way. The ARS is again planning to make the most of the month with a challenging project that we can all enjoy together.  Members can find the piece composed for this occasion, "Quo Vadis?" by Victor Eijkhout, in print with the magazine. It can also be found online via the PtRM and Music Libraries pages, where there are play-along tracks as well as videos so you can learn the piece on your own.

ARS Membership Renewal Update: Autopay now available!

Up to now, each member has had to remember to log in to the ARS website or write a check to renew every year. ARS now offers an autopay option where your membership will renew automatically.  This must be enabled by the member at renewal time -- it won't happen automatically. Contact us with any questions.
