So, GenreCon 2023: Forbidden Doors lived up to all the hype. The many months of excitement and preparation among our members and team was only matched by the buzz of the weekend itself. What a whirlwind!
With more than 200 genre-loving writers showing up in style to experience our many panels, workshops and special events, it was joyous to see this community reemerge in-person after so long away from its home here at Queensland Writers Centre.
Congratulations to the winner of the 2023 GenreCon Short Story Competition, Jay McKenzie, for her magical story February Girl (read below) which we had the pleasure of announcing at our spectacular Launch Night event.
We hope the conference has reinvigorated you to write, develop and thrive - until we see you again in 2024... Brave. Bold. Genre.

Later, she catches you tugging at the tiny brass handle protruding from one near the top... read more.
