Seniors
Great work this year so far! You have made wonderful progress but the journey is not over. Your goal is to stay focused and continue to work hard. Also, remember that colleges can rescind admission if your grades drop significantly this semester.

Now that many of your applications are submitted, there are new action steps to be completed.  1) Register for online application portals. 2) Make sure to complete supplemental application requirements. 3) Submit necessary financial aid forms. 4) Schedule an interview if applicable. 5) Continue demonstrating interest in colleges. This can be done by attending in person and online events, interacting with admission officers, and engaging on social media. 6) Maintain good grades! Click HERE for more tips on what to do once your applications have been submitted.

Make sure if you have made any changes to your senior class schedule that you notify the colleges on your list!

For students that have been deferred - remember a deferral is NOT a denial. While this news might be disappointing, there are opportunities to strengthen your application. Click HERE for some tips on how to approach this process.

Remember to research scholarship and financial aid offerings. Fastweb and GoingMerry are two great resources to make this process quick and easy! Additionally, for those in Florida, now is a great time to apply for the Bright Futures Scholarship. For more information on Bright Futures and answers to frequently asked questions, click HERE.

Keep working hard and finish strong! Ask for help when you need it - you got this!
Juniors
Now that you are halfway through your junior year it is important that you attend college fairs at your school, in your local area, or online. Click HERE for NACAC's list of Spring 2023 virtual and in-person college fairs. Continue to build out and develop your list of colleges and start to plan campus visits. If you want to better understand how to approach college tours, click HERE for a guide on how to plan a successful college visit. Additionally, Click HERE for a list of helpful questions to ask at college tours, information sessions, and more!

As you continue to refine and research the schools on your exploratory list, explore different settings and locations to see what might be right for you. If you have not already, make sure you sign up for admission mailing lists and start showing interest in the programs. If you have not already, start to think about who you might ask to write your letters of recommendation. Most colleges will ask for two or three letters of recommendation as a part of the application process. Ideally, these letters will be written by someone who can describe your accomplishments, personality, and skills. To learn more about when and who you should ask, click HERE.

Now is a great time to register for a real spring ACT or SAT.

Continue to think about what you might want to do this summer. Please reach out to a CACG counselor for more information as the team maintains a database of summer program offerings we would be excited to discuss with you. Ask for help with this. There are many exciting opportunities!

Continue to think about your course planning for next year. It is important not to overdo it academically, though you want to take the most rigorous schedule in which you can be successful.

Freshman
This month take some time to reflect on the SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely) goals you set for yourself at the start of the semester. Are you on track? If you have not set goals for the back half of this year, it is not too late!

At school, look for opportunities to explore your interests and get involved with sports, arts, community service, clubs, and other organizations or extracurriculars. Start to craft your resume - keep track of your high school involvement and accomplishments, including extracurricular activities, summer experiences, and academic honors.

Continue thinking about exploring some colleges and universities. Look at a college guidebook or two, and use college admissions websites to explore college options.
