Dear member,

After recharging our batteries over the Xmas & New Year’s break, we have begun straight back into our football program with most players attacking their training with a high level of enthusiasm and intensity.

Our group will have a different look this season with a new batch of recruits who are starting to settle in with the training and commitment levels required. With a large batch of younger players under 21, our focus on the track has been to lift our fitness levels, combined with strength gains that will allow us to compete against the bigger & stronger teams in the WAFL.

Some of our more senior recruits such as Trent Manzone (WP), Charlie Thompson (VFL), Ned Shannon (VFL), Jacques Barwick (Tas) & James Ewing (Peel) have been strong contributors on the track and with Jy Lane & Cody Howard (both Ovens & Murray F.L.), are ready to re-join the group on the track, giving us a different look in the midfield and down back.

Younger recruits like Lachie Paton (WP) and Paul Pascu (Calder Cannons), will add to our youthful group of Baxter Philip, Ben Fairbank, Daniel Hill, Harry Quartermaine, Connor McDonald & Deklyn Grocott, to name a few who will start to make their way into our senior team during the season.

One important factor for our improvement will be the growth of many of our current listed players from previous seasons. We must get stronger input from most of the players who have been around for a season or two which will be critical to our performances. Most of these players have been training strongly with many looking to really consolidate a regular position.

We have our pre-season camp this weekend, so it will give all our coaches & players a great opportunity to mix and start to create a strong base for the whole football department to start planning our expectations and structures on & off the field that will have everyone on the same page. I’m looking forward to seeing our leaders leading from the front, and yes, there will be some tough & demanding activities that will challenge the players.

Finally thank you to the 90+ members and supporters who turned up to the sundowner last week, as it again shows how passionate our supporters are to see this great club climb back to the lofty days of the 60’s & 70’s.

Enjoy the Week
