Dear Downtown East Toronto members, colleagues and community,
We are sending this e-blast to provide updates and information on the Downtown East Toronto Ontario Health Team (DET OHT), as well as relevant news from the Ministry of Health.

You are welcome to share this communication with your extended networks.

Welcoming a new year
As this is our first e-blast of 2023, we would like to wish everyone a happy New Year.

We want to thank our DET OHT members and community members for your continued commitment to the great work we’re doing in our priority areas. We hope the strong partnerships we’ve built will help us to take on the challenges ahead and lead us to continued growth as an OHT in 2023.
DET OHT Wellness Hub Clinics
Our DET OHT partners have continued to collaborate to offer Wellness clinics at Regent Park CHC, 40 Oak St. and The Corner (200 Wellesley St. E).

The Wellness clinics offer COVID-19 vaccines as well as other child and adult routine vaccinations, mental health assessments and therapy, etc.

See the flyers below to view the Wellness clinics hours of operation for February:
Health Connect Ontario has undergone a name change - now known as Health811
Please be advised that Health Connect Ontario has undergone a name change – it will now be known as Health811 (or Santé811 in French).

The focus of the service remains the same and Ontarians can access Health811 by calling 811 (TTY: 1-866-797-0007) or going online at Ontario.ca/Health811 (or Ontario.ca/Sante811). For alignment, it is requested that all references to Health Connect Ontario be removed and updated with the new Health811 name and website link (the phone number for the service has not changed).

Please read the memos below for more information about the name change and for examples of wording you can use to update any materials you may have that reference Health Connect Ontario.
Spotlight: Outreach team in the St. Michael's Hospital Emergency Department
The Emergency Department (ED) Outreach team at St. Michael's Hospital-Unity Health Toronto was recently featured in the Toronto Star. The program, co-designed with members and partners of the DET OHT, was highlighted for supporting unhoused patients and helping stop the cycle that brings the same patients repeatedly through the ED doors. Click to read the full article.
Poverty Reduction Strategy update
The City of Toronto’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Office is looking to garner feedback and input from those working directly on the front lines to reduce poverty in the city. Every four years, the Poverty Reduction Strategy is updated to best reflect the needs and priorities of Toronto residents, as well as those who work directly on the front lines to reduce poverty within the city.

Click here to open the survey. The survey includes a section related to a paid consultation workshop, which is open for your staff or teams to apply. A few important notes:
  • The application to participate in the paid consultation workshops is at the end of the survey
  • The survey participant will then be emailed with a selection of dates to choose from within the next two months
  • The workshops are two hours in length and are conducted online
  • Participants will be asked to provide their feedback and input to help the Poverty Reduction Strategy Office in their work to best reflect the needs and priorities of communities via those who work the most closely with them
  • Honorariums will be provided to workshop participants for their time ($50)
Important: Although you or your staff may not be able to participate in the workshops, they ask that you still complete the survey above and provide your input.
