Message from Catherine Hensiek, CAA President!!
1963 was a pivotal year for our community and the country. Those of us who were alive then most likely remember very well where we were on November 22nd. It was a very sad time for Americans and indeed the world.

The years of the 1960's were tumultuous, yet transformative. The war in Vietnam and the embryonic ecology movement grabbed the headlines. There was a revolution in music, fashion, design, and art. Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Mary Quant, Twiggy, Ruth Asawa, Joan Brown, and Jade Snow Wong were among the influencers of that time.

Perhaps tuning into the vibrant energy of the Bay Area arts scene, in 1963, a group of local artists formed the Concord Art Association. As far as we know, none of the founders of CAA are still active in the art world, but we would love to know if we are wrong! We have scant archival or other history of the early years of CAA, so if you have stories or art to share from that period, please reach out to us.

We are planning several activities to celebrate our association's 60th anniversary. July 4th, we plan to join the City of Concord's annual parade. Our July-August Art Show at aRt Cottage will celebrate 60 years of CA. Our end of the year party might have a 1960's theme. We are seeking volunteers and committee chairs. More to come!

CAA February Member Meeting

Please plan to attend CAA's first member meeting of 2023 at the Concord Library, 2900 Salvio Street. Our meeting will begin at 1 pm and end 3 pm, on Tuesday, February 14th.

The meeting will include:
  • Updates on the CAA Calendar for 2023 shows, meetings, and more!
  • Opportunities to sign up as volunteers for many activities
  • Creating new name badges
  • Mini-art show display and time to talk about our art. Bring your own easel, please!
  • Make and take presented by Liz Roberts. All tools and supplies are provided.

Due to the continued presence of COVID-19 in our community, we request attendees wear masks. Doors will be open to the outside to improve ventilation. Tables will be set up in a classroom arrangement. Thanks in advance for helping us make this in-person meeting available for all members!
