CHAPTER MEETING/PROGRAM
FEBRUARY 21

The February meeting is moved from February 14 (Valentine’s Day) to Tuesday, February 21st. This change eliminates a conflict with Valentine's Day celebrations.

LOCATION: Unitarian Universalist Church, 2810 N Meridian Rd, Tallahassee, FL
MEET AND GREET AT 6:30 PM (Bring snacks to share!)
MEETING PROGRAM AT 7:00 PM

Topic: Hiking+ in Africa - Ghana, South Africa, Zimbabwe

Description: This program features hiking and more in three different African countries. Our speaker, our own Courtnay Micots, will share green rolling hills, savanna grasslands, animal sightings (lions and elephants!), hiking trails and more. We will learn a few of the many lesser-known options for adventure touristing in Ghana, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Courtnay, an FTA activity leader for 5 1/2 years, is also a Professor at FAMU who specializes in African Art. During her research travels, she took time off to enjoy some of these wonderful sites.

At the meeting we'll also celebrate our recent, successful Torreya State Park Trails work weekend with a report and pictures. And we'll receive a report on upcoming Elections.

BIG IMPACTS

From January 20-23, 2023, members of the Apalachee Chapter (and a few wonderful FTA folks from other chapters) came out in force to bring the Torreya Challenge Trail up to acceptable standards. A total of 33 wonderful volunteers participated in the event!
The trail provides access to unique plant and animal communities that do not occur elsewhere in Florida.  The work event restored access to the more remote backcountry area. Click here to read more about the event.
