FESTIVAL

Submit your film for our 2023 film program!

Deadline: 01.03.23
Still from Coastguards by Alistair Debling · 2022
We are currently open for submissions for our 10th edition of Copenhagen Architecture Festival taking place in June 2023.

This year, life takes the centre stage: the symbiotic, the habitats, the life balances and life cycles; nest, cave, hive and feeding chamber. Focusing on bio-inclusivity, biomimicry, conservation, gardens and notions of nature, our film program will explore new ecological perspectives while exposing exploitative paradigms and practices.

We believe that the ecological crisis is (also) a crisis of our imagination. And we consider film as a useful training ground for a new ecological imaginary that can drag our somewhat sluggish society in a more sustainable direction.

We are looking for both documentaries, fiction films and hybrid formats longer than 40 minutes.

OPEN CALL

Deadline coming up for the Film Mosaic: Leave No One Behind short film competition

Deadline: 01.03.23
Don’t miss the opportunity to participate in CAFx’s short film competition Film Mosaic: Leave No One Behind, closing for submissions on March 1, 2023.

We are asking for (max.) 3-minute-long films addressing and showcasing socially sustainable and non-discriminatory design solutions in the built, planned or grown environment that contribute to the fight against spatial inequality.

All the films entering the competition become part of the Film Mosaic online open-access platform collecting voices from different geographical and cultural contexts, available for researchers, educators, laymen and decision-makers, during and after the competition.

A jury consisting of Architecture Film Directors Békà & Lemoine, Architect Anupama Kundoo, Founder and Editor in Chief of ArchDaily David Basulto, President of Congress for the World Congress in Copenhagen and Vice President of the UIA Nordic section Natalie Mossin and Founder and Director of CAFx Josephine Michau will select the three winners who will be invited Premiere and Award Ceremony taking place in Copenhagen in July 2023, in parallel with the UIA2023CPH World Congress.

How is art situated in building processes and transformations of the built environment? What forms of collaboration do art-in-architecture create between art, architecture and landscape? What are the site-specific characteristics of art-in-architecture?

On February 9, CAFx and KØS invites you to a full-day seminar about situating art-in-architecture. At the seminar, international experts in art and architecture reflect upon how we produce and experience art-in-architecture. The seminar presents new methods and cross-disciplinary perspectives on the topic and contributes to a renewed discussion about the collaboration between art and architecture.

CAFx SPACE10 Library

Opening hours: Monday-Thursday 9-17
SPACE10 Library · Design by Spacon & X · Photo by Seth Nicolas · 2023
SPACE10 has asked us to curate a selection of 10 books for their new library of essential books for creating a better everyday life for people and the planet:
“As the concepts of workplaces and third places continue to evolve, we recognise the need for more shared, communal spaces in our cities. Places where people can carve out solo creative time, places where people and ideas can collide, where networks and relationships can grow, and which aren’t dependent on monetary exchange.”

A message we can understand!

In our selection you can find ‘Arcades Project’ by Walter Benjamin, ‘Urban Warfare: Housing under the Empire of Finance’ by Raquel Rolnik and ‘From What Is to What If: Unleashing the Power of Imagination to Create the Future We Want’ by Rob Hopkins. We will present each of our titles on-goingly on our Instagram.

The Danish Pavilion, curated by CAFx Founder and Director Josephine Michau, is proud to announce the title, content and team of its contribution at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition–La Biennale di Venezia, which will run from May 20 to November 26, 2023.

Under the heading Coastal Imaginaries, the Danish pavilion will shine a spotlight on nature-based design solutions in the struggle against global challenges like rising sea levels and storm floods. This project sees a collaboration between landscape architectural firm Schønherr and leading researchers, artists, Danish trade organizations and scientific institutions.

Visitors to the Danish pavilion will gain insight into concrete principles for how nature can be utilized for coastal protection and climate adaptation, as well as how these principles can be applied in various locations around the world. They will experience a dramatic narrative that shows, through future scenarios, how the Copenhagen coastline might evolve if we employ nature-based solutions.

Can’t make it to Venice? Don’t worry, CAFx will open a satellite exhibition of the Pavillion in our space at Hamtorvet 27 on June 1, 2023! Stay tuned for more info.
