Fountain Hills Community Garden
         March 2023 Newsletter

FYI-

A lot of progress is happening at the Community Garden. Our new garden reconfiguration will be awesome. All our beds will be 24" tall, made from a composite material, which is very low maintenance. Our new layout will put all our storage structures easily accessible and we will have a restroom on site. Trees will be removed due to the roots getting into our water lines. New trees will be added that do not do that. The new paver retaining wall on the South end along El Lago will be a nice accent as well as to help with drainage above the walkway. I'm very excited to be working with Echelon Construction again. They built our original Pavilion, completed in 2019.

DUE TO CONSTRUCTION, INVOICING WILL NOT BE GOING OUT UNTIL APRIL 2023 AND YOU MUST RESPOND IN 30 DAYS! Thank you all so much! We have over 73 people waiting to get a garden bed, so please help the process going forward. Thank you in advance again!

NEW GARDEN BOARD MEMBERS:

Please welcome to our Garden Board our lastest 3 members. Mary Taschner as another Garden Manager and Alan and Pamela Lordi. Each will add a great deal of expertise to our team of board members. Welcome aboard!!!

GARDENING AT HOME WHILE WE WAIT:

It is quite an adjustment to garden in smaller containers, but totally still worth it as we patiently wait. Please remember to think about planning ahead and starting your seeds for your summer planting. Take a look our website for what to plant and when.  www.fountainhillscommunitygarden.com

When starting your own seeds you can start just what you need and can have a larger variety of plants. I will be starting approximately 6-8 weeks prior to planting. It's very important that your seedlings are strong enough to put outside and will tolerate the transplanting. Timing and planning is everything when gardening.

We will be updating everyone as we progress forward, utilizing our Newsletter and Facebook garden page.  Our timing for starting to plant again in June, will depend greatly on materials availability and our Contractor. PLEASE STAY TUNED!

OUR COMMUNITY GARDEN GIVES BACK:

Ft. McDowell school received many unused pavers that needed a new home. Thank you Michele McGuiness, Joy Hubbard and Cay Loria for taking the time to teach these young children about gardening!!! Children are our future gardeners!!!
