Lecturer Matthew Noble-Olson Publishes Book Review in Cultural Critique Online

Noble-Olson's review addresses the way that the edited collection takes "up the task of theorizing the synchronicity that is becoming apparent between the ends of cinema and the ends of the world. It asks us to consider what lessons the repeated ends of the invention without a future might hold for a world confronting its own vanishing future."

ALUMNI NEWS
FTVM Alum and Filmmaker David Siev ('15)
Participates in TEDxUofM Conference: Glitch
The theme for this year’s TEDxUofM Conference is GLITCH. Glitches represent the idea that life often tries to derail us off a steady path. Although we may experience a setback or glitch, we can learn from it, propel forward, and start to appreciate every pixel of our experiences. We aim to cultivate an attendee experience that reflects the many meanings of this theme. As always, we hope those who attend our conference will leave having discovered the importance of their own glitches while learning to look for the positive outcomes.

Midwest-born and raised, David Siev is a first-generation Cambodian-Mexican-American filmmaker. David’s work on his recent film Bad Axe has been celebrated with numerous accolades, including the Critic’s Choice Award for Best First Feature Documentary; he is on the Oscar shortlist for documentary features. David lives in NYC, where he is currently focusing on developing narrative and documentary projects.

Autopsy of a Night at a Bar, written and directed by FTVM alum Meghan Chou ('21), will premiere at The Tank in NYC on March 4, 2023.

Autopsy follows Val, a dreamer stuck in the Midwest. On her 18th birthday, she finds out she's pregnant. While Val considers an abortion (stage left), her mother, Nora, also faces a difficult decision (stage right). Yes, we're watching the past unfold at the same time. Side by side, mother and daughter navigate the burdens of womanhood and the lasting repercussions of our parents' choices. See, Nora's pregnant too. But she has her own dilemma: Val's sister is dying. In order to save one child, Nora must sentence her other daughter to the life of a savior sibling. She doesn't want to, but Val is the only cure.
