Why Five Moments?

Life is made up of moments and they come in many different forms. We don’t always recognize the significance or appreciate each one like we should. Every Thursday I share some of my favorite moments with you in hopes that we can all live in and appreciate the significance and impact that each moment offers.

Moments To Lead

There are people in your life that like, ok they may love, to be critical. They will let you know what's wrong with a situation, a project, or even you.

It can get old real quick dealing with people like this, but let's take a quick look at why they may be like that.

1. They are unhappy.
2. They see the glass as half empty.
3. They love to create conflict (drama).
4. They can't think outside of their box.
5. They don't want solutions.

Does the critic have the life that you wish you had? Are these the qualities you want to be known for? No, not at all.

Remember, that these people will always be around, but you don't have to spend anymore time with them than you have to.

Your strength may eventually let them see the benefits of living a happy, glass half full, solution oriented life, but you don't have to feel bad about living and leading the way that you do.

Keep your focus on living life the way that you want and know that you should. You don't want to live life the way the critics do anyway.

I'm cheering for you.

Moments To Be Better

I recently came across the 2 day rule, and it is something I am trying to be better at with my habits and routines. The day can look a little different, but don’t miss twice.

In short, if you are trying to do something, don’t miss more than one day in a row. Be consistent.

Consistency can look different as well, but consistency is a key to forming new routines and habits.

Moments From Social Media

I was looking back through a number of the Twitter posts that I liked in the past few days. I noticed there was alot of good going on. Some of the good from those that I know, some from people I don’t know, but all of them encouraging in one way or another. Here’s a few of the good things going on.

Bengals Linebacker Joseaph Ossai, whose penalty put the Kansas City Chiefs in game winning field goal range, is supported by teammate B.J Novak while addressing the media after the AFC Championship game.

Northwestern Men’s Basketball Coach Chris Collins addresses the media after the Hawkeyes win on Chris Street Night in Iowa City. Collins was hosted by Chris Street on his recruiting visit in Iowa City.

Great reminder from my good friend and Hall of Famer Mitch Osborn on the impact high school players have on younger players. This has always been a staple of Mitch Osborn’s programs. It is no wonder the Harlan Community (IA) Cyclones have been so successful.

Patrick McCaffery returned to the Hawkeye basketball team after taking a month off to work on his mental health. A brave young man. Great to see him back and impact the game on Sunday vs. Rutgers.

Moments From What I’ve Read

I read the following thought from this John Maxwell book recently in regards to how you know if you are growing to your full potential.

“The only true measure of success is the ratio between what might have been and what we have become.”

Success comes as a result of growing as closely to our potential as we possibly can.

Moments You Remember

I have been reminded the last couple of weeks about how important friends are. We have been blessed with many friends in many places. Some we have known for many years, some for just a few, but all of them dear friends.

Some of our friends are going through some things right now. We have been reminded that life is ever changing, but friends do not change. Good friends are with you through thick and thin, and we will be with ours through thick and thin as well.

Maybe a friend or two of yours could use a contact today. It will likely encourage them and you at the same time.

Encourage one of your friends today.

Thank You for reading and supporting Five Moments.

I appreciate you all so much.

Be Blessed!
